A mate and I drove up to the away game, poured down all the way. Anyway, we got to the ground a few minutes after KO and weren't sure which end City were. Picked the wrong one and ended up in the Shed end. Strangely didn't feel too threatened though hardly anyone wore 'colours'. City lost 2-1 but the worst bit was trying to find something to eat nearby after the game and ended up in a pie and mash shop. Absolutely revolting !

I was at Gravesend NSTC 1980. I started going away with city the 78/79 and remember the stories told by the older lads about White hart lane from the season before.

So where there no formal away ends back then? I know fans always used to be mixed bit thought segregation came in before the late 70s?

There was, but there were hardly any police or stewards involved at the Old Den, and the Millwall fans used to jump over the fence or just wander into the away end
Always an eventful experience going there late 70’s early 80’s

You could go anywhere you wanted well into the '80s. Just show up, keep quiet and pay on the gate. It was only when you started trouble you would get moved. They didn't even kick you out. Even if you did get nicked, it wasn't until the mid to late '80s that the fines got hefty.
