Wintle has been very good this season in the No6 role - consistency of selection and proper coaching.

I think he would be effective there in the Championship.

But can he improve more, and what are the other options in that position? Robertson is an option, but is maybe better used higher up the pitch. Eli King will be back in the summer and is in direct competition. Mafico is also an option. Both King and Mafico could have a much higher ceiling than Wintle, and I’m sure BBM will want to promote from inside the club if he can. I doubt there will be a lot of new signings in the summer - less than half a dozen - and in my view the priorities will not be defensive midfield.

Probably means new contract for Wintle but more competition than this seasom?

I think that Barry Murphy has simplified his game a bit. I've only seen a hanful of games due to circumstances outside of my control, but whenever i have seen Wintle he looks like he's beeen decluttered in a football sense. I never really knew what type of player he was. Championship football will be quicker, less time on the ball, less time to think. I've never really been that convinced by him, although like you said, maybe Barry Murphy has given him a more settled role.

No, i don't go to games anymore, haven't been for two seasons. I watched loads last season on TV and bent streams. This season has proved difficult sourcing streams if i'm at home when the game kicks off, Virgin media says no...... I think i've seen about 6 or 7 games, that's why i've not really had an opinion on players or performances, certainly not the players who have come through this season. I work most Saturdays up until around 2.30, and things have changed for me on a personal level. If i told you what happened last year you'd think it was the stuff of a spoof country and western song

I’d give all of the other 3 new contracts but I wonder is the club waiting to see if we go up, especially NG who is probably on decent money. They’ve all played well this season and it would be just rewards for promotion.
There’s only One Ryan WINTY !

I think the 3 whose contracts end this season are Bagan, Ng & Wintle. I’d be extending each of them, probably for 2 seasons.
              And the rest for Bagan.

I’ve commented in the past on areas where I think Rubin can improve his game.

I don’t think any of us would prefer he improves his performances whilst playing at any other club.

                This is great news.

                  Re: Rubin signs new Contract

Seems like the first time in years we haven't got a squad overhaul/rebuilding job in the summer. You could argue that we have a handful of players whose money is out of step with either the division we're in or their importance to the team - Chambers and Robinson spring to mind. Both good players but in relation to the rest of the squad, luxury assets.

Every one of our players either has glaring flaws or they don't have standout qualities. If they didn't, they wouldn't be playing for us. Rubin is the best player in the division by a street. It's great news

Exciting times, we will get to see a Cardiff team in the Championship built around academy players , the Colwill brothers, Lawlor, Bagan, Kpakio and possibly King and Mafico, under a youngish ambitious coach with a pleasing style of football . May work , may not but it is worth getting behind rather than the continual overhaul of journeymen footballers we’ve signed for one season under clueless coaches / managers playing an awful style of football that we had to put up with for some many years before that

I wonder what sort of incentives are in his contract. And surely there has to be a buy-out clause for such a talked about young player?

I'd forgotten about King and Mafico, would be lovely to see make some first team appearances next year
