Is greyhound racing really that dangerous compared to horse jump races?

      Re: Greyhound Racing Ban

Plenty of Greyhound Rescue Centres. No Cocker Spaniel , poodle , labrador etc centres.

Theres a reason. In addition to the deaths and injuries from racing the dogs if not fast enough are discarded as that what they were bred for to race.

Retired Greyhounds no longer fit to race the same. Large numbers abandoned or end up in rescue centres needing a home.

These dogs normally know nothing about home life to play with toys , house trained , living as part of a family.

Im sure there are good owners who care for their dogs but there are far too many left.

(Of course this is similar to dogs in other rescue centres who have been used by callous owners are breeding dogs).

Horses generally who race live in stables generally much better than those who own horses not to race , have exercise , well fed.

Of course there is an argument against horse racing but its not as straight forward as why have they picked on dogs and not horse racing.

I maybe bucking the trend here but ever since I was a kid I've had a love for horse racing, both on the flat and over the jumps. All my family used to have a flutter on the gee gees when I was small and so did I.

The safety of horses is another matter of course. On the one hand the racing fraternity point out that the horses themselves are pampered and want for nothing. And of course they are bred to race.

On the other hand are the damning statistics highlighting the fatalities. I was disappointed when the size of the Grand National fences were notably reduced for safety reasons. Although it has diminished the spectacle of the race, it was the right decision to prioritise the welfare of the horses.
