  • The Lansdowne pub

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, members of this messageboard met in the Lansdowne for a get together. It was quite good fun, like a speed dating event for anonymous fanatics.

I was in the Lansdowne last Wednesday evening for the first time since that day. The only reason being, I was attending a gig at the big church in Canton, that's right, a gig in a church. The pub has changed a bit but it was good to see it seemed to be really busy, especially for a week night.

I did think back to that well attended, harmonious jolly organised by Mr Morris and thought that if it was now, they'd have to arrange additional security, or maybe erect a boxing ring.

I wonder what changed over the years?

CCMB misfit boxing. Probably a better spectacle than some of the proper fights we get served up nowadays.

Was it Bill Ryder-Jones at St John's that you went to?
I thought about it, but never got around to it.

Can’t remember what year that was but I’ve got some photos from that day somewhere.

Since then we’ve had the FA Cup final, the new stadium, the League Cup final, Vincent Tan, the rebrand, the Premier League, Brexit, Covid-19 and ever-increasing political divisions. We’re a different club now and it’s a different country we’re living in.

There is always a middle ground. We are all the same people, a bit older, hopefully a bit wiser, and we are all still supporting the same club.
If we can’t come together again as members of the same MB and have a civilised get together, then the world around us has really taken the wrong Rd.

In general we are forced to pick a side, not me especially but society in general.

I tend to see things in two ways, people telling the truth (fact) and people talking rubbish (feeling). Sadly I see a lot of the feeling with no facts to back it up from most people nowadays.

We aren't forced to pick a side though. The owners of social media thrive on the activity generated by controversy and various parties also benefit financially or politically from it.
However, that doesn't mean that everyone is drawn into the dogmatic and blind polarisation.

Am I right in saying The Lansdowne is now owned by the same group who run The Grange?

                      Not sure mate.

It was very busy for a Wednesday night, the quiz was on. The landlord was very friendly and there was a decent pint of Butty Bach on draught. I might take a diversion there now and then on match days.

It is, or was, at least 10 years or so I'd say.

Both great pubs, though the grange feels pricey now

I'm guessing it was good, I really like his last album and I have seen videos of him playing some of that stuff live.

Pretty sure I was there, was it before or after a match?

Sludge and TLG have had a massive fall out and both gone a bit nuts.
