Re: The Blues are going up

I've been really taken aback this season by how poor the division is.

Since we first got into a double figure points lead I've felt we'll go up, but every time I say we're going up or that we should be up, I'll always caviat like 'unless we completely fall apart, which lets be honest we're more than capable of doing'.

Going to stick with that until it's mathematical, lots of us have been burnt too many times

I don't know if it is poor, compared to what an average league 1 division would look like but it has lacked that third team to challenge for autos (not that we should be complaining). In general it has been comfortable enough and in some ways I wonder if the lack of jeopardy for top 2 has also helped to encourage some of our recent form, particularly a couple of the draws where we could have done more.

I think if we had another forward option, someone like Ballard who would fit the system perfectly, we are probably still competing for the title. Although as I type it is a bit pointless to speculate, if we had Haaland we would have won the title already.

While it is entirely possible that some of the posts about this team being poorly equipped for the Championship are accurate, it’s not a camp I fall into. I liken this team to the Ipswich team of 22/23 (even down to the manager). Of course we’ll need to add depth and make some quality PL loans but a big overhaul is not needed.
We are good to watch and if we keep BBM then I think we’ll continue the progress next season.

Re: The Blues are going up

We were warned at the start of the season that we couldn’t ‘play’ our way out of this league, and getting the ball forward early, and playing in the opposition half, with a big powerful team, was the way to do it….a bit like Lincoln, and others, have done.
But, despite being without 2 of our best players (Salech and Colwill) for long periods, we have stuck to our style of play, and have comfortably gained promotion.
I agree with some other posters on here, that our style of play will be better suited in the Championship, and look forward to seeing how we perform….onwards and upwards!

You are right about the pre-season warnings but we seem to be an exception to the rule in this division. Hopefully we will be better suited to the Championship. I'll be interested to see how Lincoln get on. They seem to be reliant on the low block and counter attack system which they have executed brilliantly but will it work as well in the Championship?

Re: The Blues are going up

It seems the teams promoted from League 1 have a far greater chance of surviving, and in a number of cases prospering in the Championship the following season.

As far as I can see, assuming Charlton are safe this year, only Wigan has been relegated out of the dozen teams that have been promoted the following year in the last four seasons.

If you compare that with the yo-yo churn between the Championship and the Premier League it looks like the leap to safety and progression for a team on the up gives cause for optimism next year!
