  • So who's being sold/leaving

BBM at Rochdale, was in a similar position. Bring players through, needed to balance the books, and move on players for a big fee.

We must be self aware, and whilst we have to stay in the Championship, we are in financial difficulties.

Lawlor will be sold eventually, regardless of how much we want to keep him as fans, but does he do a year in the Championship to improve his value.

Also Transfermarkt say that Wintle and NG are out of contract this summer. Will they stay?

I don't think it's so much about increasing his value as continuing his progress. If him and his agent are smart they'll recognise that he's not PL-ready yet, and a year in the Championship is the next logical step in his development.

As for Wintle and Ng, I'd imagine they've been waiting for promotion to be confirmed before committing. Especially Ng, who would probably have no problem finding another club at that level. Wouldn't be surprised to see them both announced in the coming weeks.

In terms of outgoings, I think Robinson might move on in search of more regular football, and assuming Lawlor, Fish, Chambers, and Osho all stay, I can't see any room for Daland. Like to see us move on the rest of the deadwood (i.e., Etete, Simic, Reindorf) too.

For me, the priority is to get one (or two) quality wide men in (I don't mind Tanner as an option off the bench but his output isn't nearly good enough for a top-half Championship side), and we know Willock can blow hot and cold. I'd also like to see us sign a similar type of striker as Salech so we're not relying on playing people out of position if he gets injured.

I'd also say another left back (maybe Scanlon will be back?) and personally I'd sign another right back and send Kpakio out on loan.

Apart from that don't think we need major surgery.

Unless very very good offers come in I don't see us selling those we don't want to lose. We didn't even sell Salech going down to league 1 and there must have been some interest in him if we really needed the money.

One big change though is the Sala conclusion. How does that effect how those at the top are thinking or planning? I guess we will soon find out.

Otherwise though I'd build around the core of the squad that has played the most this season. Think a few quality additions rather than bloating out with decent quantity on frees etc would see us fine especially with some momentum and the younger lads that bit more experience.

Just make sure we have enough for a comfortable first season back.

Comes back to Tan though. What is his ambition from here? What's the plan?
We know where it ends up with no plan. Treading water against the current.

I dont see us spending big money - I expect us to use the loan market for the most part.
If our strategy is to develop our own players, buying just prevents academy products from getting first team game time.

Maybe a replacement for Robinson and a winger? Then a couple of loans to give competition to Bagan and R.Colwill?

I think a crucial factor is that we won’t be the only Championship club with financial woes. As well as the promoted clubs and no doubt the three relegated from the Premier League will all be assessing finances in the close season. There’s a few sailing close to the wind in pursuit of the Holy Grail. The danger of losing our youngsters would be to a, say, mid table Premier League club who could afford to speculate.

If Osho and Kpakio are paying regularly next season I wouldn't be too hopeful.

We should be seen as an attractive club to loan to - back in the championship with a progressive manager and with a successful season for Kellyman to back it up. (Less so for Scanlon though I suppose.)

Kpakio is young and will get better. He started the season really well.

I think we need a dominant centre back to play alongside Lawlor.

If we are having to play Kpakio in the Championship, it will have meant we recruited poorly (or not at all) during the summer. I'm slightly less concerned about Osho, although he's clearly got room for improvement.

Think some are being incredibly harsh on Kpakio (not necessarily on here so much but some of the stuff i've read on social media has been ridiculous at times). Going forward he made 6 assists and scored 1. He's still third for assists despite not featuring anywhere near as much in the second half of the season. Just a quick look through and I can count 9 points he has directly contributed towards us getting in terms of assists/goal. Not an insignificant contribution from a right back.

Lad is 18 in his first season in men's football, I think all considered he has done very well and will get better. Undoubtedly will have to improve certain parts of his game but I wouldn't be all that surprised if he's around the squad again next season.

                        Re: So who's being sold/leaving

Perry certainly spoke like someone expecting to stay on the weekend. Bagan has most minutes this season for us. Wintle is pretty likely to be named player of the year. I suspect that's good enough reason to expect all 3 to stick around and hopefully it's just waiting for confirmation before they sign.

With the 2 additional subs next season, we're defo going to need a bigger squad.

I don't think we'll sign too many and would hope that Kellymans loan being a successful one will help us capture a few decent loans next season.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Robinson move on, but again be more than happy to have him on a bench of 9, if he's happy to do that.

I agree. Kpakio could have been sent out on loan this season, but BBM wanted to keep him in the squad and work with him. It is possible BBM may decide that a loan is the right move next season, but I would be surprised if that happens. He has clearly had an up and down season, in and out of the team and in and out of position. He has done some brilliant things and been caught out at times. But he is a Wales international that both Bellamy and BBM rate very highly.

It seems that some posters refuse to believe that any player can learn and improve and get stronger/fitter and use the benefits of time and coaching to become a better player. I expect Kpakio to be better next season and better again the season after.

At the other end of the age range time is not a benefit. Football intelligence and experience take Chambers a long way, but slowing up (he was never the quickest was he?) is taking its toll on some of his performances.

Lets hope Trott, Ng, Wintle and Bagan sign new contracts soon, that a couple of Academy players (next off the conveyor belt) are integrated into the squad over the summer, that we get 2 or 3 quality loans (Kellyman back would be a bonus) and that we sign a permanent centre back and centre forward to provide quality competition.

I'm personally really looking forward to seeing him play next season. No doubt he needs plenty of support but he could be a cracking player.
