    Re: Trott Says No

Turner is even more lightweight than Trott and less all round talent. What concerns me is BBM has deemed him to be the better option as the sub-keeper than the new guy which suggest he isn't as good as Turner.

Hasn't Tyrer been injured? Personally I think FC Copenhagen want too much for Trott even though he is a good keeper.

Trott was an unknown quantity when he came here; most fans wanted to stick with Alnwick.

I'd rather Trott stay, of course, but whoever identified him also likely identified Tyrer, so I'll trust their judgement.

I thought the fee was agreed in advance of this season £1.5m. Who knows if that's true though. Although, I believe it was widely reported.

Maybe he thinks £1.5m is too much?

Trott made 10 appearances for Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League. Tyrer has been a constant back-up (albeit for an English international) at Everton, but still, we had more information about Trott than Tyrer.

If this is true, I wouldn't be heartbroken. Good shotstopper with a great first touch. Poor command of his area and strangely poor distribution considering he used to be an outfield player. He reminds me of Neil Alexander.

At the risk of being negative; with him and our current centre backs we are going to give away a heap of set piece goals on the Championship.

I wonder if the management realise this and have lowballed him with a salary offer so it looks like it is his decision not to sign and not ours.

We need and can can do better if we are to be competitive in the Championship.

Tyrer played thirty eight games for Blackpool last season at League One level and, from what I read, their fans were impressed by him - I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting for us in the Championship if we don't sign Trott.

This. IMO his poor command of his area is a major concern. By the way I am looking forward to our goalkeeper doing the Can Can in the Championship

If it is true it's thanks Nathan and we move on. Must mention I disagree that his distribution is poor.

However, more importantly I agree with you fully that our CB's are not that good at defending crosses into the box from set pieces or just generally and this could lead to us conceding a lot of goals in the Championship

I tend to agree. I’d rather he stayed as he’s a good stopper and has been excellent at times. He doesn’t command his box, he hesitates and isn’t great with crosses. He puts too many balls out of play.

I think he's been excellent and I'm sure the club would want to keep him. he's probably won us as many points as any other player and is rightfully in the running for player of the season.

we were only able to get him as he had a bit of a bad run at Copenhagen and fell out of favour. he probably feels that his stock will have risen following this season so he can get somewhere higher.

of course the 1.5 million transfer fee we agreed with Copenhagen only applies to us, and it was agreed at the nadir of his reputation. If his stock has risen then they might expect more than that of they were to sell him to someone else, which might limit what he gets offered in wages elsewhere.
absolutely no blame in him trying to see what the best offer is though.

I can't believe people think we could do better like it's no big deal. How much more than $1.5m is it going to cost to replace him? And how much is a quality Championship keeper going to want? It's going to be difficult to find a better AND cheaper option. If we've offered him £10k and he wants £20k isn't it worth £500k a season to keep him?

Not a good thing that footballers wages are in the public domain. Some players are bound to get annoyed when they’re on x amount and x++ is being bandied about for a team mate who’s sharing a pitch with him, and perhaps not contributing as much in some players eyes. Mustn’t forget these are young lads really, I know what I was like in my 20s, I wouldn’t be able to hold my gob. Cant be good for team spirit when things aren’t going too well.

I think we should word it as you have at the start of your post and offer him $20k, he mightn’t notice
