    Re: Wintle Gone!

I'm really liking his approach. He gets a player playing, builds them up, and then ruthlessly lets them go because he knows the standard we need to reach. That mix of good man-management and a ruthless streak is exactly what we've been missing.

It’s going to be another fascinating summer window. Who do we think he brings in next to replace him?

Best of luck to Wintle, an absolute class act last season, gave 100% week in, week out.

A BBM player, good he get him to the next level?

Cardiff City are currently leading the race to sign Charlie Savage, The Reading Chronicle understands.

Reading FC midfielder Charlie Savage has garnered a lot of interest ahead of the summer transfer window with Championship sides Cardiff City, Lincoln City, Blackburn Rovers and now recently relegated Sheffield Wednesday all interested in securing the former Welsh international's services.

In January Savage's future at Reading FC was in question as a host of clubs showed interest in the 23-year-old, with local rivals, and recently relegated Oxford United, seeing a bid rejected for the midfielder.

The Yellows reportedly tried to buy the star Reading FC midfielder for a fee of £500,000 which was swiftly rejected, The Reading Chronicle reported at the time that Reading FC held firm with their valuation of Charlie Savage being well over £1.5 million, and that they would not let the midfielder go unless a club matches their own valuation.

It is understood that a fee of £800,000 would be considered enough to secure Charlie, with only another year left on his contract with Reading.

Under the right manager he was terrific. He could have definitely done a job in the championship. Good luck Ryan.

            Re: Wintle Gone!

He has been everything we needed this season. Such an intelligent player. However, stepping back into the Championship we won't have things go our way every week and I do think we need someone with better physical attributes.

I trust the management to make the hard decisions.

Yes, very good luck Ryan! But I'm 100% behind whatever BBM has in mind, excited too with anticipation of of the coming naw season.

He’s not a replacement for Wintle for sure. They’re very different types of players, with Wintle sitting deeper & orchestrating. Savage is more of a Joel Colwill type player.

                  Re: Wintle Gone!

Arguably been our best, most consistent player this season

                  Quite shocked tbh

                  Good luck to him

I find it strange that so many people are not disappointed to see out best player this season leave the club.

                      Re: Wintle Gone!

I believe it's the wrong decision yet there must be someone lined up for the position. " out of my control" says it all which is a shame.
Best of luck Ryan, you'll be missed but I'm sure you'll go to at least a championship side and do well there.

                        Re: Wintle Gone!

I don't totally believe Wintle's words in that post, I believe there would have been an offer on the table but one that wasn't satisfactory i.e he's asking for a 3+ year deal at 29 or big increase in wages off the back of a strong season.

Matter of fact is that we've had a younger Wintle in the Championship who was a solid player at best, he's not going to improve massively so I can understand a deal being offered for a more squad role wage/contract length but Wintle clearly think's he can get a better deal elsewhere (and probably can) in league 1 or a longer contract in the Champ

Both he and the club are coming from a position of strength

                          Re: Wintle Gone!

I feel for him. Especially after what a great season he had. But I'm glad to see we have a manager that can make tough decisions. I hope it wasn't purely financial. I wish Wintle all the best and I doubt he'll have much trouble finding a new team.

Because he was never our best player until we got to League One? And let's not kid ourselves, he wasn't really our best player. He just had his best season with us.

We have needed this ruthless approach for many years now. Football is all about 'the here and now'. Now we are a Championship side, a league where Wintle has been average to below par.
If BBM had been swayed by popular fan opinion, we'd still have Joe Ralls at the club (albeit on the physio couch).
Wintle has been great this season, but he hasn't had to deal with too many pacey or strong opposition midfielders - the Championship has an abundance of such players.
I was delighted (somewhat surprised) by Wintle's contribution this season. However, I 100% back the judgement of BBM.
