Matter of fact is that we've had a younger Wintle in the Championship who was a solid player at best, he's not going to improve massively so I can understand a deal being offered for a more squad role wage/contract length but Wintle clearly think's he can get a better deal elsewhere (and probably can) in league 1 or a longer contract in the Champ

Both he and the club are coming from a position of strength
Are we to put more stock in your personal belief based on zero evidence over a clear statement by the person who was most affected by the situation?

Where was I asking anyone to side with what I was saying? I was giving my opinion which is what the whole point of a message board is. By the way that is also my opinion.

Thought he was terrific last season in that role and I'm surprised.

Wish him the best, could get a championship club but if not there wouldn't be any shortage of suitors from the clubs that have seen him in person this season.

A hell of a change in the club in one year! A player we all liked and most of us would have been happy to retain, released as the new Manager that got the very best we've seen from him, feels he's not what's required for the next season, and that he can get us better.

If BBM had been swayed by popular fan opinion, we'd still have Joe Ralls at the club (albeit on the physio couch).
Wintle has been great this season, but he hasn't had to deal with too many pacey or strong opposition midfielders - the Championship has an abundance of such players.
I was delighted (somewhat surprised) by Wintle's contribution this season. However, I 100% back the judgement of BBM.
Yup, agree with that. Barry Murphy has changed the landscape in terms of what he wants from players. From what i have witnessed every game is about winning, getting on the ball, urgency in possession and out of it, players being made to take responsibility, no excuses. There's a lot more to how we play now than what actually happens with the ball. That said, i'm not dressing him up as the next Pep either, he's still learning and next season will be different on quite a few levels.

Shifting Wintle shows us that Barry Murphy is thinking forward, he wants something different. We have all seen enough of Ryan Wintle at championship level to know what he's about, and if fans think that Barry Murphy can give him that extra yard of pace, that little bit of urgency needed in possession and more athleticism then i do wonder what their thinking is.

Wintle performed very well the season gone, but it was league 1, and it was generally poor, opposition teams camped up on the 18 yard line for the best part, they rarely came out to play, for a deep lying midfielder there's space and time in front of him, he did well, but it's nice work if you can get it. As for his work rate, chasing back etc, well so what, that should be a given.

You're right about Ralls, and i'll raise you an Aarron ramsey, although most people eventually succumbed to the notion that hewas finished (three years ago) We do seem to have a collective of easily pleased supporters, conservative in thought and opinion, happy with mediocrity and don't really demand from players.. Barry Murphy seemingly has a different thought process.

                    Re: Wintle Gone!

I expect a new defensive midfielder to come in when the window opens, but BBM also really rates King and Mafico.

I'm sure King would have played a lot last season if he hadn't been injured. Mafico was talked up massively before his loan (and after he demonstrated he was not a left back), and has come back with his reputation enhanced. Both play the Wintle role.

I trust BBM's judgement on this.
