86 Maradonas World Cup. Don't think we will witness a single individual dominating so much ever again.

Italia 90 not sure im being overly nostalgic of this but seeing the footage reminds me of being young , socialising , the music etc I was abroad shortly after the World Cup in Greece with friends and and there still seemed a feel good factor from it. Gazza was still dominating the tabloids many weeks after the tournament. Final was crap.
1978 for me. The best ever atmosphere in World Cup Finals, bar none.

1986 the Maradona World Cup. As you said, he dominated the whole show. For me he will always be the GOAT

My earliest memories are of Scotland in the 1978 tournament, losing to Tefilo Cubilas and Peru, the needing to beat the Dutch by 3 goals but failing despite Gemmils goal. The ticker tape and music was brilliant.

I remember being disappointed that Brazil didn't win the 82 tournament, as I was too young to remember their previous wins, but loved the French and Italian teams that year. My Grandparents went on holiday to Spain just after that tournament and brought me back a Naranjito keyring and pint glass. I still have the pint glass.

I would say that final was the best too, for the same reasons.
Also I was ridiculously happy at being able to see Rivelino play in a 1978 friendly at Wembley as at that time he was the last of the 1970 team still playing for Brazil.
Was the 1970 one when Socrates stole the show, or was that later on?

I notice that WC's since the turn of the century don't get much of a mention. My favourite WC would also go back to the 20th Century.

It’s very often, quite sarcastically, that the majority of us on here are old farts with outdated views and should be put out to grass. This thread disputes that……….nobody has mentioned ‘58!!!!

                              Re: Favourite world cups

Funniest world cup moment for me is when Germany battered Brazil in the semi final 2014 (Brazil) if anyone is bored, then take alook at Germany's goals, all 7 of them could have easily been avoided, the defending was worse than shocking. It was funny because of all the Brazil fans crying, after the Brazilian side banged out their national anthem twice. And the reaction of David Luiz who went rogue and decided to play up front. Big Phil Scolari's face was a picture, after the fith went in it was like he didn't give a ****

The 2nd funniest thing was that weird bloke who used to dress up in a union jack suit for England games and was allowed to stand by the players tunnel. It's a good job he;s not about in this day and age as interpol would probably like a quiet word.
