Re: GLAMMY
Watched a bit of the 6ixty last night,. The new 10 over tournament in the west indies. Quite interesting as they have a few tweaks.
First 5 overs bowled from one end, next 5 from the other end, batting team choose which end they start from. Didn't make a noticeable impact, but could provide a bit of tactical thinking in terms of when to target the short boundary .
2 overs of power play, followed by an additional over if you hit 2 sixes in the original power play. Second power play can be taken at a time of your choosing. Can see the reasoning, but could just lead to more lopsided games. Although I suppose it does encourage attacking intent which is always good.
6 wickets and you're out:. Really liked this idea. I wonder if a cut to outs could lead to less of these crappy bits n pieces all rounders and reward genuine bowlers. Then again, in the 20 over format I think 6 wickets would be to low. Maybe 8 or 9 could work as an experiment. Even if it doesn't translate to T20, maybe we will see a day where test and the 10 over game are the 2 formats that really value pure bowlers the most.
Crowd chosen free hit:. Crowd get to choose 1 ball per innings that becomes a free hit. Not quite sure of the point myself.
Overall I found it very watchable. Was very gimmicky, but it was decent fun and could be good at winning new audiences. Despite the gimmicks it avoided the hundred style demonisation of 'regular cricket'. Not 100 percent sure obviously, but I wouldn't imagine many people walked away from that game being confused about what a 6 ball over is and wishing it was a 5 ball set instead. Even bigger bonus, that odious prick Chris Hughes was nowhere to be seen !!
