We intend to have 3 households for Christmas dinner and even if we're restricted to 2, we'll probably still go ahead and not change our plans. Everyone else coming would have had their booster and will take a test before coming, so I can't see really what harm it could do.

sounds sensible and I guess what most will do

There’s going to house parties galore, can’t see everyone sticking to the restricted gathering rules. Lateral flow before you go for double jabbed and boosted, bring a bag of cans and game on. Lots off work for a fortnight, no getting up in the morning and no last orders. Good luck to the authorities policing it.

Good luck for those who have to self-isolate over Christmas as a result.

House parties everywhere as you say, particularly those who have just had a booster, no point in having it and staying home alone is there?

Agree, we can’t go on like this year after year

Everyone in my house is triple jabbed. Of my close friends and family I was planning on seeing over the holidays, all are double jabbed and a good chunk have had their 3rd. Bollocks to groups of 6 and only 2 households, as long as anyone coming over my house takes a LF test or has no symptoms that’s good enough for me.

There is a Cobra meeting going on as I type this I think and I think the outlook is not good. The thing thats always perplexed me is that there are loads of people on here and the other board that'll berate Drakeford Sturgeon and Boris at the drop of a hat but has anyone given any thought on the aforementioned not doing anything about the latest variant. Alot of people seem to be basing their argument on the fact that it doesn't seem to be as bad or is much weaker and not likely to kill many but when you realise the average age of the South African population is under 20yrs old and the UK is over 40 you begin to see the politicians dilemma insomuch as their data is useless as a guide to how this variant can affect an older population. And the controversial bit is I don't think they are as concerned about the number of deaths this variant could cause but the size of the bed blockage nationally if this variant is strong enough to put people in hospital but not being able to cure them fast enough to discharge them.Because of this I feel this variant will put the biggest strain yet on the NHS even though they are arguably better prepared this time around.

Self isolate or not, it’s going to happen, it’ll be a massive case of ‘whataboutism’ re. The recent revelations of last year’s government party antics and reports, whether true or not, that the new strain is less dangerous. Many will say bugger it and mix and party whichever way they can, people have recently had a taste of ‘back to normal’ socialising and will be loathe to restrain themselves. If it was end of January, early February maybe folk would be more compliant but Christmas, especially after last year!!!! I fear the authorities are pissing in the wind if they reckon on getting the population on board en masse.

Jenny Harries, the head of The Health Security Agency said exactly that earlier today. She also said the Omicron variant is likely to pose the biggest problem since the pandemic began. A sobering thought.

Also, people need to bear in mind, despite the high level of vaccination protection, future mutations may prove even more transmissible and deadly and may become more resistant to vaccinations. As much as we would prefer it to go away, unfortunately we need to maintain our vigilance.

                        Fake news apparently

This is fake news. Please start telling people that it’s fake news. It originated from a dodgy website pretending to be news. I’ve had multiple sources deny this and the Welsh Government haven’t even met yet to discuss the restrictions. Be smart. Call it out. https://t.co/fuE2pWjxKB
