  • Mitrovic?

Am I missing something? Talk of him breaking a goalscoring record tonight with 32, is that for the second tier? Doesn’t George Camsell’s 59 goals in 1926/27 count anymore? They’ll be wiping Dixie Dean’s 60 the season after off the slate next.

they mean since the championship was rebranded. Because football didn't exist until sky butchered it.

Doubt that, Mitrovic has scored his 32nd in Fulham’s 33rd game (don’t know whether he’s missed any games). 13 games to go and he’d need to get another 28 in them to beat Camsell. Camsell also scored a record nine hat tricks that season as well. Is it another case of football only started with Sky TV?

As I say, they’ll be rubbing out Dixie Dean’s record next, disgusting.

It's just so silly. They described the penalty as "a piece of history". Do f**k off, sky.

Mitrovic is some player tho. His haul for this season is hugely impressive, but to undermine him by pretending it is a record takes the focus away from his achievement.

Guy Whittingham scored 42 in 92/93.
That was the first season the Premier league so the second tier was called the First Division. Guess that doesn't count either as its a different name.
Might aswell rename it every year and claim a new record each season.

What’s quite sad is that people believe it.

Good point, he'd have had more than 32 at this point to get to that total.

It could just be as basic as since its had a name change to the Championship.

Correct. After making such a fuss about the "historic" penalty, someone on sky did say "since the championship was fomed in 2004".

Why not just say - record goal haul for 17 years? It's impressive enough without pretending it's something it's not.

Terry Bly scored 52 of Peterborough’s 134 in Division Four in their first season in the league, 1960/61. Is that the Division Two record now then? Bly remains the third highest Football League scorer after Dean & Camsell. Mitrovic is way behind, as good as he is.

I love football history from as far back as Wanderers beating Royal Engineers with an MP Betts goal in the 1872 Cup Final and it pisses me off considerably when Johnny Come Latelys try and change it.

Who's changing it? If they say "record in the championship" it's accurate isn't it?

I'm off beforeni get accused of kicking an argument off anyway for having an opinion :hehe:

Aren't we the current English FA Cup holders, given that it was apparently renamed after we won it?
