    Re: Shane Warne dead

Thought Michael Vaughan 's comments were worth sharing :

I can’t tell you how hard it is to get this down in words. It just does not feel real*to be talking about Shane Warne in this way.

He was someone who once was an enemy on the pitch*but became a great friend off it. He was the greatest ever cricketer in my opinion but more than that*his character lit up every dressing room, commentary box, bar, golf club and friendship group.

His energy and positivity was beyond anyone I have ever known. He was loyal to a tee and at a time when I needed support he was the first to pick up the phone and offer advice, help and encouragement.

I will never forget the warmth he and his family gave me this winter when I was in Australia on my own. I spent Warnie’s last Christmas with him and his family. It is so sad to say that but it is something I will always cherish; all of us eating turkey, beef*and the usual Christmas trimmings while the King of Spin stuck to his lasagne sandwiches plastered with butter.

if you only take their records against the top sides then Murali still has a better average

          Robbery! Muggery! Aussie skull duggery!

One of the all time great sporting moments that still looks impossible every time I see it.

he loved to party, I met him in a bar in Sydney, really down to earth and appeared to be a real blokes bloke

Always hard to compare players from the past with those in the recent era. From the things I've read and the old footage I've seen Laker was a very fine bowler indeed. The biggest difference in his day was the advantage of bowling on uncovered potches. I can't imagine how unplayable Shane Warne would have been bowling on a drying pitch, he was pretty unplayable as it was.

He came along when the art of spin was on its way out and leg spin was dead. He's not just the greatest spinner I've seen, for me he's the most influential in my 50 years of following sport.

Reports in today's papers saying that he had just completed a ridiculous 14 day diet which could have contributed to the cause of death.
Poor bugger caught up in all that image stuff. very sad.

                  Re: Shane Warne dead

Back in 2013, Shane Warne joined Ian Ward, Andrew Strauss and Nasser Hussain to deliver an insight into his thought process when trying to take wickets.
