Newcastle have spent very well, they've got the best defensive record in the league and they didn't really overspend in that department. Forwards are expensive, and they had to pay more for a decent striker who scored 2 goals in 3 games before a serious injury, so they have been successful without that particular investment.

Yep, it's a lot but has worked out well.

They’re where they are more because of Howe than the money spent. £100m is less than Wolves, West Ham and Forest who are all fighting relegation.
Money isn’t a guarantee of success, just look at Man United.

              Re: Eddie Howe

Seems reasonable to me considering they were flirting with relegation when Howe took over. Guimaraes & Botman have been exceptional signings, and their value has risen. Too soon to tell with Isak, but top strikers don't come cheap.

              Window 1:

              Bruno Guimaraes £35m
Chris Wood £25m *forced signing due to Calum Wilson injury*
              Dan Burn £13m
              Kieran Trippier £12m

              Window 2:

              Alexander Isak £59m
              Sven Botman £35m
              Matt Target £12m
              Nick Pope £10m

                Re: Eddie Howe

I just want to add that 5 of those signings above were defensive players, and Newcastle are now in 3rd place with the best defensive record in the Premier league. So in less than a year Howe had to identify those targets, negotiate the deals, and then coach them into a coherent defensive unit.

The total cost of those 5 players was near what Chelsea paid for Wesley Fofana, Man Utd paid for Harry Maguire, and Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk, and nowhere near the sum Man City spent on their defence.
