Yep spot on whoever stated that is a very astute , it's all bad business whichever way you paint it , its money/deals for death/ weapons , imprisonment of innocents , and persecution of minority groups, just to feed the western persons greed and need for cheap goods and lifestyles .

All of us are guilty .

It does take a special kind of astuteness to blame the lady for going there in the first place, blame Obama for unfreezing Iranian money because it will be used to kill westerners, laud Donald Trump for cancelling the Iranian nuclear deal which effectively froze the ability to repay the Iranian debt, then suggest some folks will go off on one if this allows us to buy Iranian oil (which presumably will be used to kill westerners).

Moral bankruptcy and the inability to hold a coherent thought seems to be some of the core competencies of the "Astute".

What I do at least agree is that the Iranian Regime is overwhelmingly to blame for her plight, though Johnson's loose tongue undoubtedly made things worse for her by giving that regime cover for their actions.

USA not happy as they may have wanted their hostages out as well .

After Russia do we know see Iran / Saudi as a lesser evil ?

Various periods of sanctions have been used as a reason for non-payment, but the USA paid off a debt to Iran to get some of its citizens released years ago - and last year the UK pulled out of an agreement with Iran at the request of the USA who wanted to co-ordinate hostage releases - partly tied to the renewed nuclear deal negotiations (post Trump). That fell apart and, as I understand it, the UK government decided not to tailgate the USA but go ahead with unilateral negotiations. It seems that came down mainly to paying the debt. It could have happened years ago. Zaghari-Ratcliffe didn't have to be a pawn in a political game.
According to Jeremy Hunt on the Andrew Marr show on LBC, we had to get the Americans to agree, because if a British Bank had transferred money to Iran without American consent that bank would have been barred from doing business witn America.

However later during the interview it apppears tha LBC had been told the money hadn't been paid in cash. Jeremy Hunt mentioned medical supplies which as it has been agreed that the moeny is only to be used for humanitarian purposes maks sense.

Nazanin was no the only one that was effected knowing Boris

A London student, who once campaigned for Boris Johnson, was held in the same prison as Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, where she says she was psychologically tortured, sentenced to death and charged with being an MI6 spy.

1/I have done an analysis of those responding to #NazaninZaghariRatcliffe's interview, specifically focusing on those calling her an 'ungrateful cow' for not showing enough deference or gratitude to the UK government. The Brexit partisanship on the topic is startling. Read on! https://t.co/AOlDFl9Jph

interesting analysis of people criticising Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe for being "ungrateful" for suggesting that maybe it took too long to bring her home, and people posting Messages in support of Brexit

There is no need for abuse but I dont think she came across well tbh. In such s circumstance you would expect everyone to come away entirely sympathetically. That wasn't the case here.

I can well believe she feels that other foreign secretaries could have got her out sooner (no doubt there are reasons good or otherwise) but it strikes me that the current one and her staff have achieved it and that deserves credit.

As an aside, note how divisive Twitter subtly works; criticism of her is framed as criticism of someone who 'is a person of colour' etc. I.e a not very subtle dog whistle than anyone criticising her is a racist.

The same rules never apply to Priti Patel et Al of course. That's all legitimate

The debt with Iran should have been settled long and that would surely have paved the way for her to be released sooner. Of course Johnson didn't help when he effectively, through his remarks, gave Iran the opportunity to extend the sentences of those detained. She didn't come out of it that well in her remarks yesterday but who can blame her after spending 6 years in custody. However, I think NZR's remarks were probably made with caution as her parents are in Iran and, if she criticised the Iran regime too harshly, her parents might be punished. Far easier therefore for her to criticise the UK government which of course was fully justified and be less critical of the regime in Iran.
