Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
Great pics, thanks for posting them 👍Originally posted by TWGL1 View Post
One of particular interest to me is Pic No. 9 as I was born and brought up in Eclipse Street, Adamsdown.

Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
Great photos, but I looked at them thinking Cardiff hasn’t changed as much as I would have thought it had in fifty years.
David Morgan’s didn’t close in 1971 though did it, seems much more recent than that to me.
I was living in Fairwater from the early sixties and I can’t remember that Swiss Cottage ever being occupied.

Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
I'm 50 this year, and i can't remember having a Take Away when i was a kid, maybe when i got into my late teens. Probably because we were skint most of the time, but there wasn't the availability, things have changed massively when it comes to 'Fast Food' i blame Deliveroo and Greggs :hehe:Originally posted by BLUETIT View PostObviously, Wimpy’s were not as fattening as MacDonalds

Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
The development of Central Square and St Davids 2 have been the biggest changes in recent years. Plenty of people (not on here) complain about the destruction of the city, but much of it still remains. Shopfronts change but many buildings haven't changed much at all above the ground floor.
I rarely go to town but did last week and rather than looking at the shops, spent time looking up at the buildings.
There's a good mix of old and new.

Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
Totally agree with you about Central Square. You only need to check out the pic of the buses leaving the station and Marland House to see that. No subtlety involved in the modernisation of this area and I don't particular find it attractive. Luckily, as you said many if not most of the other buildings in town have not been so drastically altered.Originally posted by The Bloop View PostThe development of Central Square and St Davids 2 have been the biggest changes in recent years. Re: Old Cardiff Pictures
David Morgan shut in 2000's , I sold stuff to them , the staff were devastated but the offer they had from developers was too good to turn down.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostGreat photos, but I looked at them thinking Cardiff hasn’t changed as much as I would have thought it had in fifty years.

And the Swiss cottage on fairwater Green was sometimes occupied in the daytime by kids who should've been in Cantonian... so I'm told!
