Southampton? Same population as Cardiff without the external support to back it up, with Pompey close to hand.

Southampton is much smaller than Cardiff and I’d argue they are a bigger club

            Southampton urban area approx 900000
            Cardiff Urban Area ........................450000

This support to back it up arguement simply doesn't hold water . Most major cities in the UK will have an extended hinterland . The problem is getting them , and the locals , to turn up .

No it isn't. It's a bit smaller than Cardiff but has a bigger metropolitan population who , if they weren't poncing about on boats , would be saints fans .

Mate , I’ve got the ONS statistics, population of Southampton
                249,000, Cardiff around 370,000

                Metro area roughly the same

One minute you’re saying we have a support base of over 1m, and are support is rubbish, now you’re saying it’s half :hehe:

                      Cardiff UDZ is over 1m.

                      Bridgend 145,000

If you include Portsmouth maybe. Southampton's actual urban area is about 300k

No that's the population of the city of Southampton

Including Portsmouth the metropolitan area of South Hampshire is 1 .6 million

That's the urban area of south east Wales, not the urban area of Cardiff......known as the Cardiff urban area

That's 500 k , not 1 million which includes all those satellite towns like Bridgend and Merthyr which are 20 miles from Cardiff

That's not the same as a built up urban area

There is no local authority for S Hampshire, however the whole of Hampshire ( has 1.4 million population) but has Dorset to the west, Wiltshire to the north-west, Berkshire to the north, Surrey to the north-east, and West Sussex to the east.
