Unless there’s someone in this thread who is transgender and can give an genuine opinion on it can someone else tell me why they have such strong opinions on the use of slightly pro nouns.

I don't have strong opinions about this but have been following the argument a little and there are elements that don't make sense and are based on subjective, cultist belief systems. Both of those things are thus worthy of criticism. Both of us are in a privileged position whichever pronouns we use cos it doesn't affect us. Using preferred pronouns probably won't hurt (although "They" doesn't make sense for an individual and, logically, covers both bases so calling a "they" "she" isn't wrong) but why stop there? If you recognise a he as a she then does he get women's rights? Why not, if you're already calling him "she"?

They are completely different arguments to just using pronouns in my opinion. But I do agree they are complex issues which I’m not sure what I think of tbh. A bit above my simple mind.

For me people use these niche arguments to try and hold back the actual progress that doesn’t hurt anyone. Again just my opinion but it’s similar to when people didn’t want gays to be teachers because they obviously couldn’t be trusted

It’s not a simple issue but it shouldn’t be used to hold back the simpler issues that can cause great positivity for people who’ve historically had it very tough.

That’s just about the outward biological side of things though. That isn’t the only source of gender dismorphia, throughout history there have been many other versions of it.

You obviously had this opinion before reading that wiki article though. What informed that opinion, because it’s coming across as a very strong one, so I can only assume it’s a well researched and informed opinion.

You mentioned suicide rates but that's more than just pronouns, no? If a male colleague in work wanted to be known as she and later asked to be part of the women's works rugby team then he could reason that everyone sees him as female now and should be allowed to join. Denying this would be a setback.

It is complex though. Third spaces have been suggested but have been criticised as othering trans people. It's a tricky one.
