To a point, which is something missing from the trans "debate". For example, there are convicted rapists who have declared themselves trans in women's prison. That is surely wrong? Trans people have a right to be who they want but other people's rights and wishes must be considered too. Unfortunately they tend not to be. As soon as you raise these sort of questions - to enter into a debate - you are labelled a bigot and anti-trans, sometimes with drastic repercussions, such as happened to lesbian feminist Kathleen Stock - hardly a right wing loon - who was hounded out of her post at Sussex Uni for daring to suggest that there are limits to what trans people can demand.

This isn't necessary relevant to the OP but it us relevant to your comment.

I think it's right to respect people who want to be known as a woman but were previously not

But the issue of people who are biologically men going into women's toilets is very real

There are genuine people out there that suffer who are transitioning or have done. Then you have people who are very confused and want to be non binary and jump on the whole woke bandwagon.

Call yourself whatever, I can go around calling myself King of Wales if I want to, but I'd be laughed at if I expected everyone else to also address me this way.

People are assigned one of 2 genders when the midwife first takes a look at a newborn and checks their undercarriage.
If that newborn, later on in life, decides they're not what they were assigned at birth, why should anyone else question that decision?

People in this thread should look up the difference between sex and gender and the historical and scientific facts that support the separation of the two.

People who are transgender/non binary etc have some of the highest suicide rates around. If small changes like this can help lower those rates why not be in favour of that? How does saying they instead of him/her negatively effect anyone?

People used to have similar strong opinions about gay people “men sleep with women that’s it everything else in unnatural etc” leading to high suicide rates, violence and discrimination. Maybe people could remember this, this time so people don’t have to suffer in the same way again.

Unless there’s someone in this thread who is transgender and can give an genuine opinion on it can someone else tell me why they have such strong opinions on the use of slightly pro nouns.
