Played half an hour yesterday as Mainz gained only their third win of the season by beating Union Berlin 1-0 - I wonder if we’ll see him back here next season?

Re: Glatzel.
I hope he bangs them in for them. I don't think he's got what it takes over here though and I think the club would take any half decent offer to claw back as much as we could get for him.Originally posted by the other bob wilson View PostPlayed half an hour yesterday as Mainz gained only their third win of the season by beating Union Berlin 1-0 - I wonder if we’ll see him back here next season?

It is a real shame but cutting our losses is probably the strategy now. (I find it hard to understand that people STILL think that he can do a job for us. He has had plenty of chances and time.)

Perhaps good football players don't thrive in our environment?
Not that sort of good footballer really. We play in an "agricultural" way ( we need to) , which doesn't suit most strikers really. That's why Keifer Moore is so fantastic here because he can still thrive without the luxury of being fed constant balls on the floor through the midfield.
That can change of course but it's the way we've done better than we really should for several years .

Re: Glatzel.
We've spent more than enough money down the years to have built a decent team that played in a way which was not "agricultural" two or three times over, but it seems to be the way that the people who have the power at the club want us to play. I honestly feel that, perhaps, there is a thought that lumping the ball up the pitch like we do is what they believe City fans want to see. For all of the talk of City needing to acquire an "identity", the truth is we've had one for getting on for a decade at least - just ask opposing fans what sort of football they think we play.Originally posted by RonnieBird View PostNot that sort of good footballer really. We have made some expensive signings where some just haven’t fitted in .
De Cordova-Reid was one where Warnock felt he couldn’t play him and Camarasa and this distrust was emphasised when he was left on the bench when we needed a win against Fulham and had the humiliation of watching Healey put on in front of him. To me he looked like he could have scored more for us had he’d been given the opportunity as proven since with Fulham this season where he is currently top scorer.
Warnock also bought Madine who should have fitted the so called club identity but he ultimately failed more than say Glaziel or De Cordova-Reid in my opinion so maybe it isn’t always the system ?

Kieffer Moore is different class, imagine how well he'd do in a team that wasn't afraid of the opposition's halfOriginally posted by RonnieBird View PostNot that sort of good footballer really. Re: Glatzel.
Moore, like a good striker should do, makes things happen, gets involved, doesn’t give defenders a minute. Glatzel may have finished well on the odd occasion but he’s got no ooomph, no idea of taking the game by the scruff of the neck, not a chance that he’d pile into the defenders making his presence felt. It must have been a mop of the brow and a “Thank f*ck for that” by opposing defenders on the occasions Moore was taken off to be replaced by Glatzel. For the money he cost his effort, laid back persona and general contribution was abysmal. I can’t agree with the apologists who give you the ‘its the way we play that didn’t suit him’ excuses, as a £5.5m striker, or whatever it was, we were looking at him to dictate the way we play. Just didn’t have the arse for the battle in my opinion, very disappointing.

Re: Glatzel.
I agree, for what we paid ( and I know the fee isn’t his fault) I expected a lot more. I’ll be very surprised if he scores more than the very occasional goal for Mainzbetween now and the end of the seasonOriginally posted by splott parker View PostMoore, like a good striker should do, makes things happen, gets involved, doesn’t give defenders a minute. Re: Glatzel.
Glatzel obviously has never played at such a physical level, i don't think that defending at the level he was at in Germany was up to much, and the level of play. He's not the best, lacks strength and his touch on times was awful, often the ball bounced off him. His biggest problem was that he couldn't adapt to the physicality, although he did Try.Originally posted by splott parker View PostMoore, like a good striker should do, makes things happen, gets involved, doesn’t give defenders a minute. As for Moore, i wouldn't say that he's that physical, he uses his height, but he doesn't 'pile into defenders' he's a bit better than that in my opinion.
