This may seem like bad timing but Benzima doesn't look like a natural footballer with the ball at his feet. He doesn’t look like a clean striker of the ball either. I can't think of a worse winner of this honour in the last 20 years

that isn't exactly a harsh criticism if you look at the last 20 years

No complaints about the result although I can’t help but think there could have been a different winner had the World Cup been held in the summer. Often the winner of the award is influenced by those who perform well in a World Cup year (Zidane, Cannavao, Brazilian Ronaldo, Modric to name a recent few)

There does seem to be a prejudice against British or British based players for the Ballon D’or.
It’s even extended to the women’s game.

You’ve got to be French or Spanish to win this trophy. Should have gone to Spurs Son. That’s what I call a great footballer.
