Why ? He’s damaged goods. I could have taken the team to the top of the Scottish League. Not so easy south of Hadrians Wall

      Re: Gerrard

It’s funny how one job changes things, people thought Gerrard was the next best thing and next Liverpool manager. I think most would have been over the moon with Wilder at City and that’s cooled after Boro.

        Jackie vs Bobby Charlton.
How many of the Leeds players in Revie's team had a go at it? 4?

          Most of them I think
          Alan Clarke
          Norman Hunter
          Jack Charlton
          Frank Gray
          Eddie Gray
          Terry Cooper
          Terry Yorath
          Billy Bremner

I'm sure theres others I've missed

Agree we had someone who rated Madine and thought we were a better side with Will Vaulks in it. 😂😂😂

I dont think Beale would be happy with that comparison.😂😂😂

How would you or any other person on this board know whether a manager is good or not ? We can only go on the results his team achieves. Would you have claimed Nathan Jones was a good manager after his stint with Stoke ? I doubt you would but his record with Luton is excellent so does that now make him a good manager ? So many factors come into play when assessing football managers I don't think any of us on here are qualified to make that judgement. We can only give our opinions which whether you agree with them or not should at least be respected.
Ex-professional, elite footballers who become managers get loads more attention than non-footballers or ex-pros whose careers were less successful. GREAT footballers who become GREAT managers are few and far between.

Probably only Cruyff...... the others might have played at the top level but would not be regarded as greats....I'm thinking Pep, Ancelotti and the likes.

On top of that, I think there is an education of tactics in mainland Europe that means even the likes of Gerrard are handicapped when they turn their hand to management when compared to your average Italian, German or Spanish ex-pro.

I suspect that Nathan Jones is a better manager than Gerrard (imo) because he has had to be a better manager, if that makes sense.

I didn't think Gerrard would do well at Villa , based on the fact there is scant evidence to suggest he would. I don't really understand why anyone thought he'd be good but I suspect it was driven by ambiguous things like the cut of his jib , hype, playing career, having been captain, speculation regarding a pathway to becoming Lpool manager.

In reality there wasn't much to suggest he'd be able to cope in one of the most competitive leagues in the world, with some of the best coaches in the world.

He'll probably have a managerial career in the championship, lower prem , then MLS, China, Saudi Arabia.....something like that.

Beckenbaur is another great player and manager.

From a UK point of view, Clough was a decent player, a career cut short through injury. Also Bobby Robson, Matt Busby, Bill Shankly, Alf Ramsey, Joe Mercer, Don Revie, George Graham, Kenny Dalglish, John Toshack. A few there with domestic doubles, European trophies & also, lest we ever forget, a World Cup.
