This pre dated Clough in 1970. He wasn’t a pundit in 1970. I remember Clough calling Jan Tomaszewski a clown before England played Poland in that incredible WC qualifier in 1973.

Digging out Bale on TV, telling the world that his last few years at Madrid were a joke, he clearly prefers golf and is uninterested in doing it anymore at the highest levels.

Just sounded like a bitter and twisted old man. Completely uncalled for really, and no need to do it.

It would of worked mate. In both games against USA and Iran he stepped into midfield, beat his man and made a progressive pass, and that's all he had to do to add some stability to the midfield.

He was probably right, Bale semi-retired in the last few years of the Madrid contract, stayed didn't play, and went downhill.

He was making comparisons with Ronaldo, who is a tool, but tries to keep playing and keep his standards on the pitch as high as possible.
