That's not an insult by the way, he works really hard and now and again pops up with something decent. He isn't all of a sudden going to become a more intelligent footballer, his game is hard running and work rate. He's an ok footballer.
Would you be happy with OK? An OK dentist? An OK nurse? Why do footballers get away with just being OK at this level? He's peaked. Nowhere else to go. As I said, if he wasn't with us he'd not get into another Championship side that easily. We need better footballers.

Because most people, whatever they do, are just 'OK' at it, and i would say that's the case in professional team sports.

We do need better footballers. But hes miles better than at least half the squad being just ok.

Fair enough. But we’re not being entertained with OK and for me that’s the difference. Most people aren’t asking for my money to watch them. Maybe this is just me being disillusioned with football and it’s getting in the way.

Miles? I’m just not seeing it Hilts.

Harris is an average player in a below-average squad competing in a significantly below-average Championship.

He'd probably do well in League One.

I think the problem is that we don't have any really good players, we could then talk about them, instead of hanging our hopes on players like Mark Harris. There seems to be a thread on him once a month, which sort of speaks volumes about the standard of play. Mark Harris and his ability isn't really a topic of debate.

I agree that he is an average player in the squad given that he does not stand out in terms of performance, and I'd also agree that this is a below average squad given our position in the Championship table. But I'm not sure how a below-average Championship can be quantified. Ok so the supposed bigger teams in the Championship this season have no real pedigree in the Premiership/Premier League era as such. But I cannot see that this season's Championship is much different to anything we've seen in recent years or even since we returned to the second tier. With the exception of 2 or 3 tidy sides in some seasons, I'd say that the football on offer is no better or no worse on the whole than it was a decade ago. We've seen players step up from L1 and L2 and not do the job. Max Watters, Eoin Doyle for example. Mark Harris holds his own and in that regard I'd say that he deserves a little more respect.

I quantify it simply by watching it. And this season the standard of football throughout the division is awful.

You're right. So is Harry Bosch. He deserves more respect than I'm giving him. You've hit the nail on the head though, about the standard of play and really good players. Not a lot to get excited about.

I agree with you. It's dire, bland....not enjoying watching it at all this season. Can't think of a single player in any team or any team I'm excited to watch. Can't remember feeling this way for a long time.

Mark Harris will be 24 at the end of this month. He made his Championship debut for City in April 2017. Since then, he's managed to score 9 goals in 74 appearances at this level (33 of which were starts).

To put that into perspective, Robert Earnshaw was 22 when he made his debut at Championship level. He scored 9 goals in his first 9 games.

Yet similarly I could quantify by saying that I no longer watch Match of the Day, or rarely pay full attention to a Premier League match on Sky because it is dull. That's why I've really enjoyed this World Cup despite not wanting to. It's been exciting. The EPL is generally full as dishwater. What are you hoping for when you watch a Chanpionship match and in what way is it so much worse than Brentford v Bournemouth? Or Man Utd v Everton for that matter?

So Harris was 18 when he made his Championship debut, some 4 years younger than Earnshaw. Earnie also had the luxury of going to Greenock Morton on loan before returning at a lower level. Harris hasn't set the world alight when out on loan but I fail to see your point. As you are also comparing City's record goal scorer with somebody who will not be. This isn't about whether Mark Harris will be a great of Cardiff City. It's about wondering whether he can still progress. I still feel there is a better player in there. That's why I started the thread. You seem to want to write him off along with the club in general and your comparison with Earnie is lazy at best.

I agree. I think there's a talent to progress with Harris.
