Bryan Robson was a superb footballer. He got injured in Italia 90 and was past his best.

A fully fit Bryan Robson was certainly up there as one of the best during the 80s.

There is a great interview with Gazza when he is told that Bobby Robson asked after him after a charity game that Gazza played in and Bobby Robson attended, towards the end of his life.

And Gazza just breaks down on camera. Really moving.

Robson was fit in the World Cups in 86 & 90, England go further in both tournaments.

Was he better than Waddle? Gazza? Lineker?, Barnes? Debatable. He wasn't superb. He had a lot of strength and guts. He was an old fashioned player that always gave 100%. And he was a piss-artist. Still, as a manager, that's something you shouldn't say.

Because Robson would have stopped Maradonna? I think not.

Maradona would've been hacked down before he got going. Peter Reid chasing Diego is comical.

Robson played against Maradona a few times and always kept him very quiet.

I wouldn't put Waddle, Gazza or Lineker anywhere near the class of Robson. He carried England for years.

Too brave/reckless/daft (delete which is inappropriate) when challenging for the ball in ‘lost causes’ situations.

This sums him up perfectly. He tried hard.

I get it, you don't rate him.

Best English midfielder of that generation, only England midfielder who was genuinely world class. Every coach/manager says the same including Fergie.

As Splott P. said, too daft or brave. Injuries at big tournaments didn't put him in the spotlight. Still holds the record for the fastest goal at a World Cup I think?

Bryan Robson was a great player. They called him Captain Marvel for a reason. As someone else mentioned, a fully fit Robson would have stopped Maradona by hook or by crook for his second goal.

                              Better than Glenn Hoddle?

Brian Robson was a bit before my time, but I always notice how highly he's spoken of by professionals. Seems like a players player.

I wouldn't argue with Booby's opinion. The man had a huge effect on the likes of Ronaldo (R9), seems a bit silly to question him. Ronaldo speaks very highly off him, and some of the best coaches (Pep, Jose) learned a lot from him.
