  • Winless runs

    Just a recap.

Our longest winless run in all competitions spans 15 matches and was set between Boxing day 1961 and April 1962. We failed to win for 115 days.

Our longest winless run in the league spans 15 matches and was set between November 1936 and March 1937. We failed to win in the league for 119 days.

Our current run stands at 13 games overall and 11 in the league. Our last win was 92 days ago (and counting).

Failure to win any of our next 3 games will give us our worst winless run ever. If we still haven't won after Bristol City have visited, we'll have had our worst ever winless run in the league and will have gone more than 119 days without a win.

Our longest winless league run in 36/37 saw us concede 51 goals but score 12. The longest winless run in 61/62 saw us concede 32 goals but score 9. This season's winless run has seen us concede 19 but score 10, or, league games only, concede 12 but score 6.

On the plus side, we have to win sooner or later, and the bookies odds on us doing so are getting bigger. Stick City in your acca lads

What happened after these winless runs ended ? Did we win

      Or were we relegated ?

Surely unless things change very quickly .....getting it to the big fella .....then this side is going down ?

      Let's say we need 6 or 7 wins ?

How the hell is a team with no win in 13 going to find 6 wins ?

Start scoring more goals is the obvious answer. We need this manager to work miracles, get more people in the box and hope that Kaba can bring the clinical finishing we need.

Put it this way if he does keep us up they should put a statue of him outside the stadium

If he doesn't allow him to shred the squad and start again

By strange coincidence, we did win at the end of those winless runs.

Ralls used to make great runs from midfield into the box

              What's happened to him ?

We were relegated in 1962. There have been 3 other occasions where we've not won in 14 games overall but we've stayed up each time.

The 1936/37 season was a bit of a mystery. We won 9 of our opening 15 games yet our form for the rest of the season was 5 wins, 5 draws and 17 defeats. We finished 18th.

Legs have gone mate and I agree about the manager. If we go down he needs a chance to rebuild

I think he needs a change of scenery.

The 1961/2 season wasn't a mystery though. I think City were something like 8th in the 1st Division after 19 or 20 games. Decided to sell their playmaker Graham Moore to Chelsea for £35,000. I think we won just 3 or 4 more games after that. A crazy decision [we actually spent £20,000 a few months later to buy Mel Charles], which reinforces the argument that the club's been badly run for pretty much most of the last 60 years..

This club is a joke really

The fans by and large have put up with mostly crap teams and crap administrations

I doubt he'll be around next season

One hell of a memory there!

We beat Sheff Wed on 11/11/61 to move to 7th after 17 games. Moore's last game was a month later, a 1-1 draw with Blackburn, only our second point in 5 league games since the victory over the Owls. That dropped us to 15th, just 2 points off 20th. We won 3 more in the league that season, back to back wins at home over Birmingham and West Ham near the end of the season. Those 2 games meant we'd played 3 games in 4 days! We needed a 23-0 win at Villa for survival in our last game and were 21 goals short in a scoring draw.
