Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
I'd say Ramseys post match interview suggested he is interested in taking the job.
I don't think he will be the appointment but after that interview I think it looks more of a possibility than earlier in the week when making the carry on playing comments.
Trying to 2nd guess what our clowns will do though is pointless.
I've said I hope he gets it. I'm not sure how much that is down to who these idiots are capable of appointing instead and I'm really fearful they listen to the Trust and put in some L1 experienced manager.

We can sign physically strong quicker players to resolve that.
I think Alnwick will be ok. But I'd say we need a completely new spine right through the side. CBs , midfield and a physical striker.
I do like the look of Lawlor. Maybe he can nail down 1 cb position.

Yes, I saw Ramsey’s interview after I’d written the piece and was going to say I might have been wrong about him when I wrote another one I plan doing in midweek - whatever he decides, I can’t see him becoming a player/manager.

No I don't think he can be player manager.
However I think he's being unrealistic thinking he can play next season and make the world cup.
However with our luck he will end up at Wrexham play 40 games win player of the year and help them to the play offs.🤣

You’re right to mention the mentality of the squad, I’d rate getting it right as more important than any attempt to add to our physicality - I say that mind and then I remember Norwich’s fourth goal!

Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
The players at the club are the reason we are bottom of the Championship, for all the silly talk of this player being premier league quality and this one having great talent.... THEY achieved nothing and we finished bottom - rock bottom.
Ramsey is a top bloke but as a football signing it has been an expensive mistake, his contribution on the pitch has been minimal, and in fact he played in more defeats / draws than wins. But he is a thoroughly nice man and a great player (unfortunately for Arsenal in the main!) - I wish him well but not as player / manager. He has added credibility and dignity over the last 3 games - is he too young / inexperienced to be full time manager. He also seems to want to keep on playing..?
A huge dose of realism is needed, League 1 is full of gnarled hard nosed experienced lower league battlers. Not something many of our fancy dans may relish playing on a wet Tuesday night in Bradford or Bolton.

I can barely think of a game where we matched the opposition for intensity and work rate. I put it down to passive tactics from the managers but who knows. This group just didn’t seem to work hard enough. It doesn’t bode well.

I know I'll get shot down for this but why not.
I think our "youngsters" well the players we produce ourselves are too soft. I couldn't care less what results they get at under 18.
Davies Ashford colwill all of them really. They all kind of look ok in their own ways but they look like kids even in their 20s not men.
I remember ledley gunter Collins Jerome coming in as teenagers, even ralls actually, and they all seemed to have an extra fight in them we haven't seen for a long long time.
Of course the seniors are awful also and it's not the youngsters fault but for me the players we have produced do not add what we need.

Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
"Best of the subs though was Rubin Colwill who replaced Joe Ralls at half time, in fact I thought he was superb."
You obviously had your rose-tinted Rubin specs on once more, Paul. Colwill played reasonably well during the second half of a dead rubber against a mediocre mid-table team who were already 3-0 up and happy to give him plenty of space, but superb? Do me favour. If that level of performance can be regarded as superb, it's no wonder we finished bottom of the league.
As for Ramsey, I'll be seriously pissed off if he is given the manager's job or remains at the club in any capacity next season. His signing was all very cosy and romantic, but it's proved a big, costly mistake. He needs to go and go now. Maybe he can return one day when he's retired from playing (which should have happened last summer) and when he has some genuine coaching or managerial experience under his belt, but the last thing we need right now is yet another rookie manager.

Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
Cardiff City need one key thing that has been lacking for years: stability.
We cannot afford to experiment with eager, but completely inexperienced managers.
We cannot send the kids out there without some experienced heads alongside them.
The right blend could make this an exciting reboot for Cardiff City. The wrong one could see that downward spiral continue.
These decisions require the right footballing infrastructure at the club to create the vision, develop the plan and carry out that plan without chopping/changing at the whim of the owner.

Our so-called 'press' was virtually non-existent throughout the season. Compared with how quickly the opposition would close us down the minute we got the ball.
I used to feel embarrassed watching Etete, single-handedly running from one side of the pitch to the other in a half hearted attempt. It was pathetic coaching and equally pathetic desire from the players to put in the effort to get the ball back.
We have a lot of weak-minded players, who quite simply have no stomach for a scrap and are bone idle.

And Etete will be back next season, having been awarded a new two-year contract in January.

TOBW answered his own question re colwill. He said he was left scratching his head how colwill remained a bit part player in the key games after watching how he performed yesterday.
Well it's quite simple- yesterday he had all the time and space in the world to do what he wanted. In the key games he doesn't and if he doesn't have huge amounts of time and space then he is about as ineffective a player as you can get.
That's not to say he might not be OK in league 1 though! Could well have a few man of the match performances next season.

The very fact that there's even a modest amount of speculation that Ramsey could carry on playing for us next season or (God forbid) that he might be manager, shows how far the stature of our club has fallen.
As you say, Ramsey needs to go now.

Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
I return to the assessment of Colwill I made earlier this year:
He’s the really skilled lad at school who loves to show off. He hasn’t adapted well to playing as part of a team.
Either he is being greedy or he genuinely feels he needs to do clever things because we’re losing and desperate for a goal.
The net result is a player over-playing and falling around, rather than doing simple things well.
His performance versus Villa was excellent. Maybe that sort of role is worth exploring further?

Let’s not continually bash Colwill when the whole team has been diabolical but I had exactly the same opinions as you but felt he has toned back his over-playing this season compared to previous

I hope it’s not seen as “bashing”
I want him to do well and praised his Villa performance.
He needs a good manager to sit him down and discuss how he plays and can improve.
The old heads in the current squad have simply been shit.

No, I watched the game with no preconceived ideas about him. You don’t say anything about the bit where I mention the question where was this from him when we really needed it and say it’s not unreasonable to ask that. What I actually said was he was superb with a very big but though.

I know, but he wasn't superb or anything even close to superb. That's my issue. Not the fact that you said he was superb with caveats, but the fact that you said he was superb at all. Colwill is an attacking midfielder who had the freedom of the park during the second half of a dead rubber. Goals 0, assists 0 against a mediocre team that wasn't really trying.
If anyone regarded Colwill's performance yesterday as superb, then it just goes to show how low expectations have become. He did alright but did absolutely nothing special. Superb he was not.
-
Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
Firstly, thank you for your reports again this season Bob. It's always good to read your opinions on the games alongside the factual elements. I actually enjoyed the second half after worrying we would get stuffed after the sending off. I thought the change of shape by Ramsey was a positive and displayed what a decent coach can do when the situation changes drastically during a game. Bagan and Lawlor did well preventing Norwich's attacks on the ground, their 4th came from experience and strength of the centre half. Salech deserved his goals, especially after his hard work to win the penalty. If we'd had him rather than Kanga to start the season, we may just have survived. If we can add some strength and experience to the quality of the young players coming through, I'm hopeful of a more positive season in 25/26.

Common theme when Colwill looks good is space and time. Stoke, Villa, Southampton, Plymouth at Home, Norwich, in four of those games the opposition were around 60% interested, and the games were incredibly open. There's not much to understand with this one. He'll be a league 1 player next season, and so will most of the other players, the majority of them are on the slide as players, The last 2 years is enough evidence to show that. These players owe us, and I can't understand why we're still debating their ability, haven't we seen enough? League 1, over to them to turn it around.
-
Re: Deservedly bottom of the Championship.
Since Colwill made his debut 4 years ago he's played under 8 managers (if you include interims), with different philosophies and styles but a similar lack of success. He's been played out of position, left on the bench and publicly criticised by managers and supporters. His injury niggles for a couple of seasons haven't helped either.
There's no evidence of decent coaching or player development at the club outside of the academy. Players who look good elsewhere are often poor when they come to us, and players who've looked mediocre at best with us have done better elsewhere.
We've seen glimpses of his ability but he's not progressed to become the player he should have done by now.
In other words, in hindsight I think he'd have been much better off leaving the club when he left the academy. I reckon he needs a fresh start and that we'd see him start to develop into the player many of us think he could be at another club. Now could be the time to go, as League One football is going to suit him even less.
