I’ve seen a few highlight rolls of their games this season and Joel seems to play with a lot of freedom and movement. He definitely needs to be in our squad next season.

There's probably been a thread on here at some point asking what's the longest headed goal by a City player. I'm not sure what the answer is but Joel Colwill scored one from beyond the penalty spot yesterday for Cheltenham as they won 3-1 at Rotherham to progress in the FA Cup. It was the second goal for him and Cheltenham now go to Salford in the next round.
Eli King played for most of Stevenage's win on penalties against Guiseley, they face Mansfield next up, but Kieron Evans and Malachi Fagan-Walcott are out having played in defeats for Newport and York respectively. York lost 3-2 at Wycombe but Newport threw away a 2-0 lead at home despite a bizarre incident when a Peterborough corner went in via the Newport defence only for the ref and linesman to decide between them that another corner should be given in that situation rather than a goal. So many rules, it is hard to keep track of all of them, to be fair.

Second half appearances for Josh Beecher and Roko Simic this weekend in heavy defeats for Barry and Kortrijk (I used to know a guy called Barry Kortrijk once, or did I dream that? I dreamt I bought a horse once so it's probably the latter). Ryan Wintle came on for Millwall in their win over Burnley while Raheem Conte was back for Woking in their cup defeat by Cambridge. Raheem livened up the tired old 'subbed' or 'came on as sub' routine by doing both in the same game. He came on in the 22nd minute then was subbed in the 84th.
Luke Pearce finished his spell at Sligo on Friday with a couple of missed chances in a 2-0 home defeat. He took time to establish himself there but ended the season as a regular starter, it will interesting to see how he fares here on his return.
You’ve got to be pretty ancient to remember it now, but Brian Clark’s goal against Millwall in December 1968 has to be his second most memorable header he scored for us. Clark headed a goal kick from Millwall keeper Bryan King back into the net. It’s a goal I can remember pretty well because it was so unusual and because it happened right in front of me in my usual place in the Boys enclosure at the front of the Grange End. Clark had to be eighteen yards out at least that day and my not exactly reliable recall is that it was five or six yards further than that.
One other thing, I really do hope that Scott Parker’s career never hits the rocks badly enough for him to consider coming here - he’d make Bulut look like Bielsa!
A quick update on our loaned out players. Sorry it's been a couple of weeks since the last one but Mike thought it would be a good idea to put it behind a paywall and see how it went. He's £1.63 up on the deal (and seems worryingly happy about it) but I've told him I'm a man of the people and need to stay in touch with my loyal (but obviously poverty-stricken) fan base so here I am. I can't reveal what you've missed I'm afraid so if you want to know about Malachi Fagan-Walcott's concussion, Kieron Evans' one minute cameo against Tranmere or Eli King's penalty in the extra point shoot-out against Gillingham in the EFL Trophy then you may have to die wondering.
Bad weather played havoc with the weekend fixtures but Joel Colwill made hay while the sun shone last night (or was that floodlights?) as he scored the only goal of the game for Cheltenham against Tranmere in the 89th minute. He was the game's outstanding player but manager Michael Flynn wasn't expecting Joel to come up with the winner after some ropey efforts earlier in the game. This is something I've noticed about him too, he does seem to rely on the law of averages for his goals rather than being a natural finisher but it was a good one last night and he's chipped in with a few this season so credit where credit's due.
York went back to the top of the National League today with a 4-0 win against Yeovil. Malachi Fagan-Walcott put in an 8/10 performance and came up with an assist for the third with a through ball. York are just ahead of Forest Green and Barnet, who beat Woking 2-0 today. Raheem Conte came on as a sub for Woking.
No pitch time for Eli King today but Kieron Evans got a full game in as Newport drew 0-0 at Notts County. Ryan Wintle didn't get on for Millwall while Barry and Plymouth Parkway's games were postponed. Roko Simic's barnstorming season for Kortrijk (143 minutes in 3 heavy defeats and a draw so far) continues at Westerlo tomorrow.
Worth the wait. Thanks.
No Simic for Kortrijk again today.
I'd missed this article from the start of the month. Looks at Simic's problems and other loan related stuff.

Ah, Simic is injured according to WOL, quoting Kortrijk's website.

Apologies - just seen the separate thread on this.
A disappointing weekend for our loaned out players overall. Another assist for Malachi Fagan-Walcott in a 6-2 win for York but with talks still ongoing about making the move permanent it looks like his time as a regular fixture in this thread may be coming to an end. Elsewhere, no game for Kieron Evans' Newport and no pitch time for Ryan Wintle or Raheem Conte. Roko Simic missed Kortrijk's 3-1 win yesterday and Josh Beecher will be cup-tied for tomorrow's Welsh League Cup semi with TNS. Stevenage and Cheltenham both got knocked out of the FA Cup today, Eli King came on for 16 minutes against Mansfield while Joel Colwill played the 90 minutes against Salford but wasn't at his best.
So we're crying out for a knight in shining armour to save this week's loan report, someone to 'lift the fallen, restore the broken and heal the hurting'. If only. But wait a minute - who's this coming over the hill? It cant be? Surely not? It is you know, Ewan Griffiths is back to claim his rightful place in goal for Plymouth Parkway's Southern Premier League South team. Hurrah and huzzah. Not only that but he kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Gosport today with a couple of big saves in the second half, including one with four minutes left to secure the point. Suck on that, Hollywood.
One piece of good news in a weather-hit weekend is that after a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group, which included South Wales Police and Cardiff Council, it was decided to let this week's loan report go ahead. They took some persuading but common sense prevailed in the end. Just don't get hit by falling debris while you're reading this or I'll never hear the last of it.
Not much to report from today's games, only Joel Colwill got a start with Ryan Wintle coming on as a sub for Millwall. A combination of injury, postponements and squad rotation kept everyone one else out of action. Luke Pearce is fit and back training with us but can't play for our under-21s or Sligo, apparently his loan spell there doesn't end until January even though their season ended last month. What's that about?
Some midweek action to catch up on though. Joel Colwill played then too in a decent week for Cheltenham. They were beating leaders Port Vale until conceding an injury-time equaliser on Tuesday and were winning 2-1 at third placed Doncaster today before conceding a 75th minute leveller. Too many draws but they're on a good run and Joel is playing a full part in that. I haven't seen him being called a number 10 but that seems to be the position he occupies there rather than the central midfielder I saw him as here. Tom Sang was playing for Port Vale in the week, 21 appearances for him so far this season after 48 last so he seems to have settled well there.
Kieron Evans played for Newport in the week as they did a reverse-Cheltenham and came from behind to snatch a late equaliser from the spot in a 2-2 draw at Wimbledon.
The movable object met the resistible force on Tuesday as Stevenage and Northampton played each other. Two sides out of form and a 0-0 draw looked like being the outcome until Eli King came on with 5 minutes to go, he soon set up Dan Kemp for the first as Stevenage ran out 2-0 winners. Stats don't tell the whole story but as Stevenage had 77% possession, led the shot count 18-1, the corner count 14-2 and had forty touches in the opposition box compared to Northampton's two, I'd say they probably just shaded it and deserved the win. Things not quite working out for Eli there so far but hopefully his assist will lead to an upturn.
That's a very odd situation with Luke Pearce.
Good to hear that Tom Sang's doing well.
He's a funny one. When he first came here I couldn't work out if he was a wide man or a number 10 but it turned out I wasn't even warm. This article from 2018 has him down as a defensive midfielder, central defender or full back at United so it wouldn't surprise me if you're right about his position now.
https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...-wiki-15311775
My eldest wanted to see him in centre mid here but he didn't make the most of his few chances in that position. I thought he had a chance of making it as a full back/wing back but he got exposed against Leeds in those cup games and that was it for him here. 25 now, I can't really see him getting much further than League 1 or 2 but if can settle in one position and specialise there then you never know. Good luck to him anyway.
I missed your Luke Pearce post in the Academy thread. I'd have answered it there instead of mentioning him here if I'd seen it sooner. I guess you'd seen this Walesonline article too. That he can't play for our under-21s till January is dealt with in a matter of fact way but it makes no sense to me. Do you know any more about it?
https://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news...oan-experience
Given that "footballing centrebacks" are all the rage these days, I can imagine Tom Sang seeing out the rest of his career in that position. I've had one or two conversations recently about how any side that opted to go back to 80s style route one with one, or two, big, aggressive lumps up front would enjoy a, probably brief, golden period where the defensive weakness of many currently playing centreback would get exposed - someone like Sang would struggle in such circumstances I would have thought.
As for his best position, I think I've probably seen more of him in. our under 21/23 team than playing senior football and, if I had to pin him down to one position, I think I'd say right midfield based on what I saw at age group level. Wasn't there some disagreement between Sang and Steve Morison as to where he should play? Sang wanted to play right back and Morison saw him as a central midfielder ot vice versa?
Only thing i can say about Luke Pearce is that I read or was told somewhere that his loan contract had to be until 31 December even though the Irish season only went on until something like the start of November - makes no sense to me, but I'm not sure that it was really the case anyway.
Bulut talking to the Turkish media about his achievements at Cardiff City FC, and especially his track record with Academy graduates:
Speaking on beIN SPORT, in quotes translated by Turkish social media account @EROLBULUTÇUYUZ, he said: "What I’d like to highlight about the academy is that, in the club's 125-year history, I’m the first manager to bring players up from the academy and send them out on loan. Last year, I sent 16 players out on loan.
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/...f34a8a829ae9dc
The first manager to 'bring players up from the academy and send them out on loan'?
Something lost in translation or just a brazen invention?
Stevenage boss Alex Revell talking about Eli King:
"First half he still could have played forward more, were trying to get him to be braver on the ball.
"I think the big thing for him is to learn the nasty side of the game. Thats not smashing people but understanding the importance of winning the 50-50 duels and your headers.
"But second half at Burton we saw a much better performance, a more complete performance in terms of playing and running forward, switches of play, winning his duels.
"He is getting better and anyone that comes from a different club, no matter how far away that is, it does take time and it can be lonely.
"We've made sure that he and Ken are in the same place together so it's great for them to have each other.
"But the lads here are fantastic at welcoming people and both of them are now showing that they can be a part of the group."

Simic out until January or longer with a "very strange injury" and looks likely to be recalled.
