Honestly, I think McGuiness would struggle in the Premier League.
There's no doubt that he's wholehearted, and like many, I believe he could end up as our captain.
However, Premier League defenders tend to have pace these days (coupled with good passing ability), if not they're easily exposed.
Being a committed defender in the Premier League isn't enough on its own.

This one makes more sense

True but if someone wants to pay us money for him then that's their problem

Jeezz he’s only 23, he doesn’t need to be a premier league player, he just needs to progress. IMO CB is the position you learn the more you play, ruthless position. He’s decent and can keep improving. I don’t think many are suggesting he’s a premier league player.

If, as is being reported, City do sign Chambers, do you reckon McGuinness gets a place in the starting lineup?

Yes, I can see Chambers being played as a DM for us.

He made nine Premier League starts for Villa in 2021/22, but only two in 2022/23 and just one in 2023/24 - a 5-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on the final day of the season (he was subbed on 68 minutes with the score at 4-0).
Chambers is obviously a decent player by Championship standards, but he hasn't played much football at all in recent years. City are clearly pushing the boat out in terms of wages this summer, so it will be interesting to see where he figures in Bulut's plans. Chambers won't be coming here to sit on the bench, so does he replace McGuinness at centre-half or Ng at right-back?
Is Ng staying? I haven't followed closely but apparently he hasn't featured pre-season yet (?)...plus there was a general feeling that if we could get anything decent for anyone on the City books it would be him. Maybe it's all been done and dusted and I've missed all the news.
Re: The Transfer Window Rumours thread
Ng is injured
However, as one of our most saleable assets I would sell him while we can.
Given the way Bulut likes to play Ng is not the quick overlapping full back needed.
Only keep him if we play 3 centre backs, i still maintain he is better in a back 3.
Re: The Transfer Window Rumours thread
Think the club’s intention has been to sell Ng this summer (it’s like in the Ridsdale days when we’d always sell one or two players for big money to cover transfer expenditure), but there doesn’t seem to have been any interest in him. I did read on social media about interest in Goutas, but I’ve no idea how true it was.

My reply was to a poster who said that before his injury McGuiness was the only player who looked like he could play at a higher level. I disagreed with this remark and still do.

Ng bar a fit Ramsey is our best player.
Unless it's a silly offer he needs to stay.
I'm not convinced Bulut likes quick overlapping full backs anyway plus we'd have to sign a really good new right back.

Says a lot about the state of this squad.
If we get an offer of a few million we need to cash in simple as that.

Understand Cardiff have received a sizeable bid for McGuiness

6-7m is surely a sell
Good player
Bags of potential
But we could bring in someone for half that

£5 million would be an incredible price given what McGuinness has actually achieved. I like him, he’s probably my favourite player in the current squad, but that’s more down to his attitude than his abilities.
It would be good to know who’s doing the bidding.

Player of the season At Sheffield Wednesday, high endorsements by numerous managers, consistent performances in a struggling side before his injury ,and recognition by Republic of Ireland U-21’s probably has something to do with it.

I thought he looked very assured against Kortrijk
Re: The Transfer Window Rumours thread
5mil would be a no-brainer now we have Chambers. Use the money for a much needed striker

McGuinness wasn't the Player of the Year at Sheffield Wednesday in 2022/23. That was Liam Palmer.
