Giving up the Eastern flank is shocking but without any action other than saying oh you are awful from the west this is where it ends . ?
Two years behind? The USA are eight years behind, would Ukraine have been invaded if ther3 had been more of a response to Russia going into Crimea in 2014?

Can't disagree with that.
A lot of yanks seems to be blaming Obama for allowing this whole thing to have started in 2014.
It's hard to know what goes on behind closed doors though.
Putin clearly wasn't happy with the Obama regime at that time, and isn't happy with Biden. When Trump was in power, they were butt buddies.
Was Trump bending over to appease Putin? If so, in what way exactly?
Does this all come down to Putin's unhappiness with NATO's expansion moreso than his own desire to put back together the USSR?
It seems Obama and Biden are clearly triggering him, whereas whatever Trump was preventing exactly, he was clearly much happier about.

Re: Putin declares four areas of Ukraine as part of Russia
Our Western media portray Putin as an isolated evil dictator, it's almost pantomime levels of stupidity, it's done just incase we, the proles become anti war and don't want to freeze to death this winter.
But where is the actual evidence that Putin is acting alone and not reflecting the general view and inclinations of Russians? Putin has a lot of support in Russia. This may cone as a surprise but Russia might not want wokeness, mass immigration and generic, nihilistic shopping malls everywhere, as seen in the American led West. Also, Putin’s replacement could be very gun ho...so becareful what you ask for...

I see that sensible debate about a serious subject has descended into farce due to the usual WUM/Armageddon cabal.

And someone posted a record of the respective log-ins of both identities when they were both posting all day long. The two identities were never on at the same time but alternated many, many times during the course of the day concerned.

OM posted as Balderdash about 15 or 20 years ago. You're telling us that you can remember his style and have quickly recognised it all those years later even though he's using a totally different name?
And you think that is more believable than you being a multi of a regular?

Ukraine war: Russian troops forced out of eastern town - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-63102220
That town is in one of the annexed regions of Ukraine which Russia will formally declare is part of Russia itself in two days time and will have the same status as Moscow or anywhere else within its borders.
It's speculated by Russian media and implied by their government that the instant they officially become part of its territory then the gloves come off should Ukrainian troops not remove themselves and desist from launching future attacks.

Think the gloves came off a while ago, wonder if he will bomb it to bits like he did when it was known as Ukraine? Strange these towns seem very happy to be back under the Ukraine flag when liberated from the loonies….

How would it be sabre rattling if he's the controlled opposition? Surely there's no such thing as a bluff in that case

He's bluffed and blustered since February. Ukrainian forces have attacked Russia proper and Crimea, but he hasn't deployed any of his heavy bombers in retaliation. Zelensky's Kiev palace remains untouched. He could, so military analysts I have read say, have flattened Kiev at any time with conventional hypersonic weapons that are so fast no defence missile system can stop them.

I'm a bit more wary than you.
Bluffing is debatable. He's grabbed land previously with no consequence, and he's doing it again now.
I wouldn't be at all shocked if he used tactical nukes to continue his unopposed land grab.
After all, what does he have to fear?
The Ukraine is not part of NATO and never will be. So far, the west have refrained from any serious intervention, and will probably continue to do so.
Why not?
What's he got to fear?

Do you not consider the amount of financial and military (hardware and training) support for the Ukrainian regime serious?
https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-a...pport-tracker/
NATO forces are not directly fighting Russia - but indirectly USA/UK/NATO have poured a vast amount of armaments into the country.
The 'land grab' seems to be going into reverse at the moment.
Maybe that makes the use of tactical nukes more likely, to stave off military failure and political defeat? But I don't think Putin is mad or completely irrational. Capable of catastrophic miscalculation, living in a bubble of terrified yes-men, but not mad. (MAD - mutually assured destruction?)
His strategy seems to be: re-draw the map, offer peace talks, peel off as many Ukraine backers as possible, open new threat fronts, and wait for the world media and public attention to get bored and move on to the next story. Not fire nukes.
