Pre-Season 2024 | Hamburger SV vs. Cardiff City

The Bluebirds will take on Hamburger SV in a pre-season friendly on Sunday, July 21st in Bramberg, Austria.

The fixture will take place at the Smaragd-Arena in Bramberg, which is the home of Austrian fourth division side, TSU Bramberg, with kick-off at 4pm local time (3pm UK time).

Ticket details and streaming information for this fixture, along with details of additional friendlies taking place in Austria, will be confirmed in due course.

Hamburg compete in the 2. Bundesliga and finished the 2023/24 campaign in fourth position, narrowly missing out on a chance at promotion to the top tier of German football.

Managed by Steffen Baumgart, Hamburg's top scorer last term was former City striker Robert Glatzel, who scored 11 goals in 58 appearances for the Bluebirds between 2019 and 2021.

This will be our first meeting with Die Rothosen since the 1967/68 European Cup Winners' Cup Semi-Final. A memorable piece of Cardiff City history, the Bluebirds battled with Hamburg over two legs for a spot in the Final, with the German side narrowly winning 4-3 on aggregate.

Last week they said south west Salzburg. Bramberg is three hours on the train from there (and will have a bus replacement service part of the way on the 21st) so it's like saying we're playing in south west Cardiff and it turns out to be Minehead. But there we are. Looks very scenic but won't be the easiest away trip.

I suppose it is SW of Salzburg….Munich is cheap enough to fly to, train and bus from there is an option.

Bramberg is where HSV are based that week. So other fixtures could be elsewhere. I'm going to go - maybe rent a car.
