"The greatest team in football, the world has ever seen.."
When every other club sings...
"By far the greatest team, the world has ever seen..."
Always find it curious. Does any other club do this?
It's because the Welsh have a better ear for music.
Our version scans much better. "Team" should not take 2 syllables.
However I should also point out that "You'll never notice how much I love you" should be "You'll never know, dear, how much I love you." The meaning is quite different.
That's tonight's music lesson over.

Because the more popular version sounds like something they would sing at Eton.
Do the JB’s, and Cewty sing it the same as us?
Ive often wondered this.
Ive always put it down to wanting to be very clear that we know we arent the best team at rugby, ice hockey, etc.
It goes back to the 1920's when having shot up through the southern league and division 2, we reached 3 FA cup semi finals, lost 1 final, won the other, and missed out on the CHampionship by 0.000000000001 of a goal. It was also the start of 'we hate Stalybridge Celtic..."
The other version doesn't say football.
We're by far the greatest team;
The world has ever seen

I always thought it was a strange song to sing in the first place. I mean, we're clearly not the greatest team the world has ever seen. It was even more weird hearing that when we were flirting with the bottom of div 4.
Actually, I find the whole singing thing weird, but I realise a match would be equally weird without it.
For the record, I've never sang at a football match in my life.
Should be shitest
