I'm not sure Attlee was a socialist, but he was at least a social democrat with energy, vision and determination. The post war Labour government seized the moment to transform the economic and social order and put people, respect and decency before imperialism and profiteering. It is a different world today and in some ways more difficult to bring about generational change in one country (and harder to build like Attlee than dismantle like Thatcher) but Corbyn's Labour is at least starting to dictate a lot of the political debate.

Corbyn is another traditional social democrat. Always has been - despite some of the Mail-lite rubbish posted in this thread - but that's probably what is needed just now.
