    German elections

Scholz and the centre-left marginally ahead on polls. Will probably take days to unravel this one though.

They love a bit of endless dithering

    Re: German elections

It'll take them a while, but they'll end up with a government that's a hell of a lot more competent than ours, and that's more representative of the wishes of the electorate.

The green vote is massive in Germany

But we don't like central left / right politics as its just Tory lite just ask Momentum , that where Labour were under Blair and now they hate him ,perhaps that explains the incompetency and what we have in power ?

And he turns yet another question that had nothing to with Labour into an opportunity to have a go at them.

    Re: German elections

I find it interesting that the SPD find just under 26% of the vote "a mandate to govern"

    Re: German elections

The current German government is an alliance of SDP (the major party of the left) and CSU/CDU (the major entity from the right).
In very crude terms it's theoretically akin to a Conservative/Labour coalition.......

Sadly, the far right AfD has over 10% of the vote.

They need to fix their emissions, they are far worse than ours and still digging out fossil fuels .

They have mines that are off the wall big in the Rhine .

We have moved so far quicker to reduce emissions .

I was simply pointing out that the German / Europe politics would not sit well with the Corbyn or UK Socialist type of politics as they have a centre left feel more akin to the current Tory party, our Socialism has very little attraction in Europe the same as the Democrats in the USA they are not socialist .

Europe is more centre left Blair like and I have read on hear so many times how he is disliked and called Tory Lite by a lot of Labour voters ,interestingly that was when Labour was last in power with a huge majority and supporters , there is a message there .

But hey you know all this .

I also know that the last Blairite Labour campaign (under Brown) was in 2010 when Labour won 29% of the vote.

    Milliband won 30.4% in 2015.

    Corbyn won 40% in 2017 and 32.2% in 2019.

Of course Corbyn was the biggest electoral disaster in the history of parliamentary elections according to most of the PLP and media.

But hey, you know all this.

Brown was not Blair , and that stated this rot , you've carefully selected the dying Blair / Brown era ,as your rightly point out the Miliband and Corbyn vote share rose , strangely they never found power.

Think the Corbyn defeat was the worse since 1935 for Labour and even after that they and you still cant see through the fog of the past ,they should form their own fringe party and allow Sir Keir to invite in and back the centralist and get elected its not impossible its about removing the part of the party that holds it back .

'Lose, lose, lose, lose, Blair, Blair, Blair, lose, lose, lose, lose’. 11 true and sad words

But hey, you know all this.

    Re: German elections

Traffic light coalition on the way in Germany?

Social Democrats, Free Democrats and Greens - all saw vote share rises.

If I remember rightly the Free Democrats (right-wing Liberals?) have backed the CDU/CSU in the past in a centre-right alliance.

416 seats out of 735 in the Bundestag if a deal can be done. But that is a very broad spectrum of policies and interests to reconcile.

    Re: German elections

Germany is centre left , Italy and France has moved in that direction and many Nordic countries , if you want to be a part of the new Socialist agenda hop aboard with the Greens, as that is where the growth is , wake up Sir Kier and kill the squabbling be brave ,be bold .

Indeed. The FDP have formed coalitions with the SPD on some occasions and with CSU/CSU at other times.
The Kenya and Jamaica coalition options are outside bets at the moment, it seems.

This is a really good overview.

AfD worryingly strong again in the eastern states, with 24.6% of the second vote in Saxony!.

    Re: German elections

Huge election in ten days so surprised there has been no discussion on here.

Arguably the most important election in Europe (biggest country and economy) and a pivotal one given lots riding on it and following two years of economic contraction.

    Re: German elections

I have a hunch ......that just maybe , following what they arecsuggesting is a terror attack in Munich today .....that the far right in Germany will get a huge vote

The AfD will definitely benefit from the incident.
Unfortunately, when someone deliberately drives a vehicle into a crowd these days it's no surprise if they come from a certain background.

Car makers, you couldn't make it up, thick as shyte.

Like the economist bank clerk, she was probably one of the ones getting customers to open online apps only for them to close all the branches when they had persuaded enough to go online and no longer need a branch.

They weren’t children. They were adults. The shooter clearly didn’t like immigrants.

However the vast majority of deaths and injuries caused by terror attacks in Europe since 2000 have been perpetrated by non-white people of immigrant backgrounds, usually Muslims, especially so given the relative populations sizes of native Europeans and immigrants. To suggest otherwise would be churlish.
