He says his views are theoretical as no-one knows precisely what happened prior. He thinks hitting that 40 degree mark will weaken the magnetosphere which protects the globe from radiation (cosmic rays, etc), disrupt weather systems, cause an increase in earthquakes and volcanic activity and consequently wreak havoc upon the food chain and negatively affect technology such as GPS.
