If CCFC were without a win as Wednesday were then the crowds for the Swansea and Bristol City games would have been a lot lower and we would have the ridiculous situation of a crowd of 16000 being announced and there being barely 14000 in the ground

Even if you take the Swansea game out of the equation, we're getting better crowds than we did when we were last promoted. That's after 2 really dire seasons. I think that's pretty good going.

I was very happy with the Swansea and Bristol attendances but if were were struggling and without a win like Wednesday we simply wouldn't get the crowds

There was a reason for that though, but you are spot on.

Even non league are getting record attendances but I guess that’s helped by a few fairly big former league clubs who are now playing outside of the league structure.

Norwich maybe, with their premiership seasons. But Ipswich last 20 years are nowhere near us in achievement Eric. They have not played in top flight and we reached two major domestic cup finals to their none.

If you recall, we lost our opening league game at home and were utter gash against the worst team in the division. Yet we still had over 21k for a midweek game a few days after the jacks and over 20k for the visit of Rotherham.

If you still seriously think we'd have lost 6-7k of those fans you're utterly deluded.

Every time someone does, you come out with the old yarn of thousands of City fans deserting the club at the first sign of regardless of what evidence is thrown at you. Give it a rest. Sunderland have the 12th best average attendance for the country in their history. However their pre first world war averages really drag the average down as they got under 15000 regularly in the formative years

We're ranked 32 but we didn't have any pre first world war attendances. Two seasons in the 80/early 90 we averaged under 3000

All cities surrounding areas add to the populations but doesn’t alter the actual city’s population. Sunderland has Washington, Durham, South Shields etc on its doorstep, making their catchment area large but doesn’t alter the actual city’s population.

By the same token our area, if you include Barry, Penarth, Pontypridd etc etc make our catchment area larger but doesn’t increase Cardiff’s population.

Newcastle itself and Sunderland aren’t much different in size. Newcastle is 114 km2, Sunderland is 137.5 km2, Cardiff is 140 km2. Google is your friend

This is correct, the early years of the Premier League with all its razzmatazz & hype sucked loads into the trap of being an armchair glory fan, unfortunately we were knocking around the dungeon. Other similar sized or even smaller clubs had a bit of Premier League limelight and fans stuck, our 2 or 3 thousand at the time stuck but we’ve had to work like f*ck for another 20 thousand +.

If you go to " Newcastle " or "Nottingham" it's obvious they are bigger places than Cardiff despite the fact that their urban centres are smaller

That doesn't apply to Ipswich. They haven't been in the Premier League since 2002. spent the last four seasons before this in League One. Average Championship league position 2002-2019 (17 seasons) was 11.3. Cardiff City in the same period never went into League One, got to the Premier League twice and spent 18 seasons in Championship with an average league position of 9.6. Clearly a better record for City in the last two decades.
