The figures given by some people on here about a Cardiff urban population of 1.1 million people include Newport which itself has an urban area of 300 k

The urban areas around Newcastle itself than make up an urban population of 823k are joined at the hip to Newcastle......Gateshead, North Shields , North Tyne side

You can't expect people to include Barry and Bridgend as part of greater Cardiff

That's why Newcastle has a bigger urban area than Cardiff . It's not about opinions , it's based on population data .

Barry and Penarth and are not part of the urban area of 1,000,097 , so you could argue it’s much bigger as both places should be

Bridgend is also around 140k not 24,000 so it could be bigger still
