It's true that people are mainly looking for meaning and purpose. Science can offer answers to the 'how' (to most things) questions but can struggle or completely fail with the more popular WHY questions.
It's difficult to address your 'some religious people' comment as I have no idea on your own faith position (and certainly wouldn't ask given the PC environment we all have to live in)?
If it were for example, the perspective that came from serving Christ, then He didn't advocate a position of 'say nothing and let the chips fall where they may' just in case you cause a few ripples on the pond. But that when we are asked (in various ways) to explain our perspective that we do so clearly, robustly and as often as the opportunity arises.
