Thread: The Transfer Window Rumours thread

  1. #51

Re: As the Transfer Window Opens Today

The nights have started getting shorter and I'd say that this thread is still awaiting its first player transfer rumour that has some real substance to it. Maybe that's because it seems our manager and his staff only returned to work yesterday - at other clubs, you'd ignore that because you'd assume all sorts of preparatory work for the new season had been going on almost as soon as the old one finished, but this is Cardiff City we're talking about.

They were a shambles with the Manager contract renewal, so you can be sure we will be a good few weeks behind our competitors.

I expect Bulut will be looking overseas again with another few from Greece or Turkey, so maybe he had players in mind.

Liverpool allegedly wanting £8m for Nat Phillips.

You are right, it was a shambles which, as Dalman is so invested in the Bulut project, I guess is down to Vincent Tan. I would hope that transfer budgets are now agreed and that the manager and transfer committee (if it still exists) can get on with recruitment without interference from afar. That may be too much to hope for however.

I'll start looks like we missed out on Jordan Williams

Portsmouth have won the race to sign Barnsley defender Jordan Williams on a free transfer ahead of West Brom and Cardiff
This will be the recurring theme. We will continually miss out on targets

I’d pay half, max, and I’m not even sure I’d feel good about it.

I’m sure he’s got plenty of targets lined up. I wonder if we will see any outgoings that bring in a decent transfer fee?

sort of cardiff city related can't see it myself

Barcelona are interested in signing Jaden Philogene (22) from Hull City! Contacts have already begun.
It could be a loan with option to buy

Bob, you might want to re-think the first statement in this post

I wouldn’t bother with him, Phillips had quite a few good games, but we defended better when it was McGuinness alongside Goutas

It is not only the transfer fee, but Phillips was also widely reported to be on £65k pw with 2 years left on his contract. He will want to 'protect' that salary with any move away from Liverpool (either signing on fee, pure salary, or getting Liverpool to pay up part of it to get him off the books). I can't see Cardiff being in the conversation with those sort of numbers flying around.

If we are going back to a former loan success (more of a success than Phillips) I would prefer Kipre. He is out of contract at WBA but has rejected their best offer and now seems to be on his way to France, Turkey or Suffolk! No transfer fee to get around, but even if Cardiff was the most attractive option in front of him (!) we cannot compete on salary.

Agree about Kipre on both counts, it’s a shame his contract didn’t run out this time last year because I think we would have had a chance of getting him then - as it is, I’ve seen him selected in a couple of Championship select teams for last season. You could argue about whether he was good enough to justify that, but I’d say it’s generally accepted that he was one of the better Championship centre backs in 23/24 and, as such, he’s now probably out of our reach.

But at what point does the "Tan backs Bulut" narrative become another PR bullshit lie?

If we want to get real philosophical (since there's absolutely **** all else to talk about) is a lie a lie when it's first muttered or when the event in question does/does not happen?
Thinking Tan/things at the club will change is like thinking an abusive partner will suddenly wake up and change their ways.

Josh Murphy's been released by Oxford.
Reaction from their fans seems to be that he was good for a bit but didn't do enough. Who'd have thought...
Looks like he's off to Portsmouth.

Well, the club had let it be known that Ng would be sold if the “right” offer was made for him and, with no interest in him so far it would seem, we’re now seeing stories about Premier League interest in Colwill - I’ve always thought that we’d have to sell to be able to bring in the sort of players we want, I’m not having a go there, it’s just the way things have been at Cardiff for most of the last 125 years.

I don't think Colwill would cut it in the Premier League even with better players around him. He plays as if he has more time to control a ball or pass it than is often the case - and gets dispossessed as a result.

I can't understand the delusion about the value and saleability of Ng. Don't get me wrong, he's a good player and I'm glad he plays for us. But he's 28 yrs old and an above average Championship right back. Right backs generate the lowest transfer fees of any position. We'd be lucky to get over £1 for him and that would be from the likes of Hull or similar.

The only players who have any transfer value greater than that are Colwill and maybe McGuinness. This is a direct result of not developing younger players and signing has beens (this goes back to before Bulut). It results in your squad has no capital/resale value. Recent signings would probably have a negative value (reverse premium).

Ryan Giles to Hull now a permanent move.

(Hull have sold Tufan to Trabzonspor for an undisclosed fee).
