    This was the original tweet

After a season at Standard Ličge, Wilfried Kanga will once again be loaned by Hertha Berlin. This time with option. The striker, trained at PSG, arrives this Monday at Cardiff City (Championship) to undergo his medical examination. #Mercato

    Paul Abbondonato tweet earlier

Looks like the cat is out of the bag on Wilfred Kanga then. Cardiff hv been fearful of another team making an 11th hour attempt to gazump them, hence kept it closely under wraps. But all things being equal he’ll be a Bluebird by Tuesday night, the striker they’ve wanted

another source mentioned this medical was due last Friday but delayed to player restraints

Famous YouTube clip, he at least seems mobile. Some decent goals, wait and see.

Suggestions that been interest from other clubs this summer for a perm deal around €5m. Seems certain that there's an option to buy which is good news, though I'm sure if he hit 15 goals us and we bought him the following season would be 2 goals, knowing our luck with strikers

Kanga is 26. City will be his 8th club already. His stats suggest he didn’t make much of a mark in France, flopped in Turkey, did well in Switzerland, flopped in Germany, did OK in Belgium.

    Interesting. Could be anything.

Re: The Transfer Window Rumours thread

Like the large majority of City fans, I’d never heard of Wilfried Kanga until yesterday, now that I have, I have two questions. First, is he really a striker or is he a winger as I’ve seen suggested in some places? Presumably, he’s an Isaak Davies type, capable of playing both roles?

The other question is, how good is he? Kanga has a confusing CV, his figures are only impressive when he has played in Switzerland and Belgium (let’s not forget either that the aforementioned Isaak Davies scored a similar number of goals playing in the same league for a worse team than Kanga played for).

The thing I find strangest though is that we played Hertha Berlin on Friday and, although it was probably not their strongest team, we were the better team and I thought we deserved to win. Hertha finished ninth in what I’d say is the second strongest second tier in Europe and we finished twelfth in the what is regarded as Europe’s strongest second tier, so you’d think that we’re pretty evenly matched, yet Hertha are treating Kanga as if he is not good enough for them by loaning him out for the second successive season. Do Hertha have financial problems that make loaning him out.a necessity? I don’t think they do.

Can’t say I’m as excited about this signing as I am about the Willock one, but the proof of the pudding will be in the eating I suppose.

Kanga had one season at Hertha Berlin. His stats were 15 (+8) appearances, 2 goals. Hertha finished rock bottom of the Bundesliga and were relegated.

It would be good to know why they then decided to loan him out to Liege as opposed to giving him a chance in the German second tier, but I don’t suppose we ever will.

This could hardly be described as an impressive signing, but it is an interesting one. Kanga has shown in Switzerland and Belgium that he can score goals, but his career thus far has been erratic. Hopefully, Championship football will suit him better than French, Turkish or German football did.

Obviously I hope he’s a great success here, but we still need another forward as well, I thought we would buy a striker first and then get one in on loan.
We will need more back up during the season than Etete and Davies!

I would imagine Bulut and his team will know a lot more than a few football fans with a wifi connection to minimal information from Google, on whether the player will fit in with how he wants to play in the coming season.

Fingers crossed he's right, but as with most transfers from overseas that none of us know, we'll just have to wait and see.

Just to say that a Hertha fan has replied to a Tweet of mine to say that Kanga does not want to play for Hertha (some sort of dispute with them I presume). He says he’s definitely good enough for them;-

“Yes, as his contract is valid until June 2026.

In total, this player should be fun. Can shield balls, score and his speed is decent. He had a bad first year, as the Club was a total mess, and just does not want to return to Hertha. We have to accept that and need some money.”

You'd hope so, but then you'd have imagined the same would have been true with regard to the loan signings of Famara Diedhou, Jonathan Panzo and Runar Runarrson.

I think most clubs have signed a few players that failed to live up to expectations since at least the 1900’s.

True mistakes get made, know he is here and more established and knows the league and what we need there will be fewer of them, he has made some very good signings.

Diedhou was probably way down the pecking order but we couldn't get much in January and Moore was out of our League.

Indeed. And City have made loads of those in recent years.

We signed 15ish players under Bulut last season and not one of them would get into our 17/18 team.
