I'd let him go for £5m+

I wouldn't be surprised with a £5m with options rising to something close to £10m

If we get that we have done well. It’s still a shame.

Luton are good at finding the right players with the right stats and characteristics, he's probably a much better player than we know, still at that price we'd have to!

If they are that good at finding the right players why wouldn't they able to build a team that would have avoided relegation last season?

I don't recall anyone saying we were good at finding the right players with the right stats and characteristics when we got relegated from the Premier League.

Interestingly the thread switches to 'who would you go for and Scott Mckenna's name immediately comes up.

I really hope the Mckenna rumours are true, he and McGuinness would be a top class pairing. Dare I say, a promotion winning pairing.

I hope we don't sell McGuinness. Despite the figures being bandied about representing 'good business' under the current ownership there has never been a direct correlation between income and expenditure in the transfer budget.

I agree, we’re supposed to be building a squad to challenge but then people are happy to sell players who can help make that happen.

He's probably our most saleable asset and, much as I would hate to see him leave, I would sell him because it would allow us to invest more in the rest of the team.

They got up in the first place with a relatively low budget punching above their weight.

It takes a lot to stay up now, not sure what Luton spent but Burnley spent £ 120 million and they finished above them, with all three coming straight back down.

We’d have to replace him, which won’t be free, then there’s no guarantee of reinvesting the money. I agree with your sentiment but this is Cardiff City.

I don't know much about him either, but he's got to be better than Wintle.
If sources are to be believed we've only paid £1m up front half of which would be covered by the money we got for Adams - and the remainder would be 6 months of Wintles wages.

As you say he's largely unproven but I think a decent gamble for a player that is a more attack minded midfielder and has some potential to improve.

He's worth at least £10m. Our only PL quality player

Ike Ugbo has signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent basis. Undisclosed fee (as usual).

Seen it described as £3 million. I suppose the question this prompts is are we weaker at centre forward than we were this time last year? Hard to tell, as I wouldn’t say that Kanga’s career figures are any better than Ugbo’s were at the start of last season.

Re: The Transfer Window Rumours thread

For me Ugbo was a very useful striker in the box who was frequently stuck out on the wing with no service and even when used as a striker suffered from our general lack of composure in the final third. One of the better finishers we’ve had in the last 10 years.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he got double digit goals this season, that’s got to be worth 3 million even if the rest of his game is lacking?

His combined Championship stats last season (City and Wednesday) were:

    28 (+10) appearances, 11 goals.

That's a big point to make. Bulut has got to let strikers be strikers this season, not defensive strikers, wide players when the wide midfielder is helping the full back even when we're attacking.

With the numbers we get forward and the slow, boring attacking, our strikers don't get much of a chance. I think if we'd have signed Kieffer Moore, he'd have been on the wing half the time looking for the ball as he'd have precious little up front.
