NG back to better form , Goutas solid on his return , Bagan , Colwill and Tanner , Robinson up front

That's a chunk of the side putting in a good shift

I don't think it's beyond our capability to get away from that bottom 3 ?

Midfield and a back up striker and with a bit of determination could see us ok 👍

If we win Sunday and in the absence of a decent candidate then riza has an interview surely ?

yes quite pleasing that so many of the best performances were by players who have been out of the side, and in some cases written off as not good enough previously

Alnwick, and Robertson were good also, it was a step in the right direction.

Alnwick is a capable keeper at this level and bulut should never have picked below him

Robertson could be what we are looking for

Didn't they all just play their positions?

Ng & Bagan basically stayed at full-back supporting the midfield but no diagonal wandering into midfield leaving acres of space.

Roberston and Ralls won a lot of duels and played it forward when on, but rarely held onto the ball for too long

Tanner tried to take on his man and Colwill made him a lot of the time by giving him the ball in a position to run onto it. ElGarzi still has a way to go and Robinson (never my favourite) proved you don't need to be 6"2' and 90Kgs to be a modern-day centre forward.

We need to find a manager to suit the squad. The youngster (by our standards) are starting to dig out the older pro's

I wasn't quite sure how we were lining up in the second half. Tanner seemed to have his side of the pitch to himself as though he was playing wing back but he's spent so much time tracking back in the last year or so that he's virtually a wing back in every game anyway.

Rinomhota went in at right back in a back 5 when Tanner was injured which made us think we'd been playing that system all half but we weren't sure. It cost us the attacking momentum when he came on (Robertson suddenly got caught out a couple of times as he'd lost his outlet up the right flank) but it was understandable to bring him on. The hero call would've been to bring young Kpakio on there and keep looking for a second goal (I reckon TOBW would've done that) but we got the win so it's all good. It would've been a lot of pressure for a youngster.

Tanner and Colwill did well. I agree. It was a bit similar to the Bristol Rovers cup tie where not much happened until we went 1-0 up then the pair of them made the most of the space they were given after that. It's a shame we don't go ahead more often. Them and Robertson made it a good watch.

Someone posted in another thread that Ashford should have.come on for Tanner, that’s what I would have done, but in my reply to him, I said that Rinomhota’s introduction was scoreline influenced and the interesting scenario was whether the same decision would have been made if the score had been 0-0 - I may be wrong, but I reckon Riza would have made a different choice.

I thought Rinomhota did well at Hull and he didn’t let anyone down on Tuesday, but I’d prefer that we didn’t try to turn him into a right back. We had a specialist in that position on the bench and, even if he had his hands full defensively at times against Southampton, Kpakio could have done as well as Rinomhota on Tuesday against a team that didn’t really have a specialist left sided attacker while offering more going forward- the introduction of Rinomhota suggests that Kpakio was never going to be brought on, so why name him as a substitute?

I don't think that's the case, Rinomhota was our only specialist defensive midfielder on the bench so he was probably there primarily as cover for Ralls/Robertson

I think its understandable to go with Rinomhota in the situation we were in ahead of Kpakio, and I say that as one of the "Play young players" brigade. I also don't really rate Rinomhota! I would have gone with Ashford myself as well though

Definitely scoreline influenced, yes. If we'd needed a goal, or even been further ahead, then I reckon we'd have seen Ashford or Kpakio, or both. Like City123 says, I think it was understandable to go with Rinomhota in that situation.

Riza comments on Ashford at the end of his press conference today, sounds like he needs to be doing a bit more but his chance will come. Shame Reindorf didn't come up, that was a question that needed asking.
