The sad thing is that this keeps happening. I said to someone recently that we hear far more from Trump than we ever did from Biden, mainly out of sheer disbelief at his actions and comments. Americans seem to think he's great while the rest of the world looks on in sheer bewilderment.
Understaffing reports tonight..

I think this is the article Trump was referring too at the press conference.
Don't shoot the messenger! Posting for information!

On day 1 of his presidency, ordering a freeze on the hiring of Federal civilian employees which covers an understaffed sector probably wasn’t the best move…

It appears as though there was another close shave at DCA the night before with an American Airlines flight had to abort it’s landing due to a Blackhawk crossing its path.
It’s insane how many Military Flights are constantly active in such restricted Airspace.
Also it appears as though the helicopter that crashed into the CRJ was flying at 200 feet higher than the maximum altitude it was supposed to at this part of its route along The Potomac.
There seems to be quite a bit of debate whether the Air Traffic Controller was stern enough, just by asking if it saw the CRJ and the helicopter pilot thought that they did but it was a departing flight.
To me though, with what we know it was the Helicopter pilot to blame as it shouldn’t have been at the altitude it was.
That airport is horrible, it’s really only there for politicians/lobbyists to get back home 30 minutes quicker than going to Dulles Airport.
Apparently, there was at least one Democrat politician blaming Trump for the accident before he addressed that news conference, so it's beginning to pan out inro an argument about numbers of public services workers along the traditional lines of Democrat (left) in favour of greater numbers and Republicans (right) wanting to cut numbers. That's a valid argument for further down the line when more is known as to exactly what happened. The fact that it seems both sides wanted to indulge in such arguments within twenty four hours of the USA's worst air tragedy since 9/11 happening is shameful and much more so when. one of those slinging the mud is the US President.
Incredible that some people still take Trump at face value and think this is 'undiplomatic loose talk' from a guy who did 4 years of this previously. His argument that 'diversity means a lack of intelligence' would work a little better if he , or the old white men he surrounds himself with, could string a single sentence together but let's just shrug our shoulders and wait for the next worst thing from him.
It's lucky the air industry isn't important in America though isn't it ? Otherwise the President saying it's not safe to fly could be a bit of an error.
Statement by a would-be controller yesterday:-
Mr Brigida graduated from Arizona State University’s collegiate training initiative in 2013 – a partnership program with the FAA that was previously used to train and select the most qualified applicants.
Andrew Brigida, 35, scored 100 per cent in his training exam but claims he was denied a position in an air traffic control tower because the recruitment process of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) favoured diverse candidates.
He is part of a class action lawsuit filed against the federal agency.
Speaking after the disaster that killed 67 people, Mr Brigida claimed that years of diversity hiring meant it was only a matter of time before an accident happened.
“You want to hire the best and the brightest for this kind of job because it is a very stressful job and it can take a toll on you, age you prematurely,” he told The Telegraph.
“You want to make sure that the people that are doing it are the best.”
After scoring top marks in his air traffic control selection and training examination, he was placed on a preferred candidate list, until the FAA changed the rules.
Under the Obama administration, the regulator replaced a skills-based test with a biographical questionnaire to attract more diverse applicants.
When Mr Brigida tried again to become an air traffic controller under the new tests, he said he failed the biographical questionnaire because he “didn’t fit the preferred ethnic profile.
Yeah so there is a few things unravelling on all this.
I have to say this doesn't excuse the crass timing of Trump's comments but I think it does explain what seemed like a random intervention.
https://simpleflying.com/faa-air-traffic-controller-applicants-lawsuit/
It seems that;
A/ the air traffic control tower was understaffed
B / the FAA is being sued for racial discrimination based on their DEI policies.
C / they turned down 1000 valid applicants based on their race.
I gather there are numerous class actions against companies at the moment which is why many are abandoning such policies which I think nearly everyone would agree go too far and go way beyond legitimately opening up opportunities for people.
Correlation doesn't mean causation of course and Trump is taking one and one and coming up with three, and his timing was still bad but it's not random as first suggested.
Feels like a real culture shift coming on all of this stuff, which is good in my opinion.
