Thread: Women's Euros

  1. #1

    Women's Euros

Their first ever major tournament gets way later - 5pm v Netherlands, live BBC1.

It's a proper group of death, with Wales (30th in the world and the lowest ranked team in the competition) drawn against Netherlands (11), France (10) and England (5).

Whatever happens, it's a big step forward for a team that the FAW refused to recognise between 1973 and 1993 and withdrew from qualifying in 2003 because the away trips were deemed to be too expensive!

Not expecting them to win any of the games, but long term it will be great for the development of women’s and girl’s football.

According to Sky, there are 4000 Welsh fans in Lucerne for today’s game

Great for my great niece's to have players to look up to and realise there is a root if they wish to reach the top.
    Come on Cymru.

Watching the game now, and obviously wanting our girls to get a result, but it’s a hard watch.

Would've been a bit of a boost to get in goalless, but not to be.

    That was a bit gutting

Think our right hand side has got tired collectively having to operate on the sunny side of the pitch because the Dutch were getting more space down that side - really good finish mind and all we’ve done really is try and hang on for a 0-0.

The gulf in class exposed. Need to really dig in now.

Quite a change then, and good to see. Did so well first half but it’s an awful group so not unexpected to have a few hidings here.

Commentator just said "Drinking not allowed in stadium by US IN ENGLAND" when commentating on a Wales game!

Pretty predictable outcome, but at least the Welsh ladies are the party.

Realistically, we’re not going to avoid defeat or score a goal in any of our games based on yesterday’s match, but truthfully, it was always going to be a learning experience in a group like this - the real achievement was qualifying. Mind you, England now need to beat the Dutch to avoid a situation whereby they and the French could play out a draw in their last game to knock the holders out - maybe we could get something against an England team that knew they were heading home after losing to The Netherlands?

I thought the team looked more energetic after the 60th minute (???), substitutes

One thing I’ve noticed from the games I’ve watched, the women take better corners than the men.

Into the mixer every time, always beats the front post

Not looking good for Wales not taking a pasting in their remaining two games… keeping it under 5 in either game will be a hell of an effort based on the games so far.

Worst case scenario, we’ll face an England team who will start the game needing to score as many goals as possible.
