If you ever feel the need to visit a trip down memory lane, a sense of nostalgia, a feeling for days gone by, and the chance to see, gear and listen to most of what you've posted above, Then there's always an open invite for you Jordi to have Christmas dinner at my in laws. Even the door bell chime is ****ing racist.
I'd say food, drink, music, entertainment, sport, fashion, art, stuff like that.
The society I live in has been enriched by different cultures and customs throughout all of my 59 years. I can't imagine what life would be like if it hadn't. What would things be like in the UK without immigration, I wonder? We'll never know. Or care.
I'd also flip the question: What have the people getting mad at the different custom contributed positively to society? All they've managed is rage and riding on the backs of other people actually responsible for positive contributions to society. They've done more to hurt society than not only immigrants as a whole, but I'd even argue the criminal immigrants they crow on about, because they've allowed a rot to fester that's much harder to deal with than individual criminals.
They should be grateful the question and narrative has not shifted to whether or not they should be allowed to participate in civil society, because the narrative they're concocting is a Frankenstein monster that will turn in on itself.
The things you list are subjective and consumer choices. They may or may not affect any given individual, based on personal taste. It doesn't make anyone better or worse for what they choose. My question was to Tuerto who suggested he could walk down City Road and get a "true education" and it enriched us as a society and I asked how. Whenever there's a debate on immigration, diversity is suggested as a positive thing but it's a digression at best.
I think they affect each and every one of us on a daily basis. Of course, those opposed to immigration will pretend they don't, but we all know that's nonsense in reality.
UK 'culture' (if there actually is such a thing in this day and age) includes countless elements either taken directly from or strongly influenced by other cultures from all over the globe, and that's been the case all of my life.
I often wonder how people who maintain a firm anti-immigration stance reconcile their support for professional football in general and Cardiff City in particular? If their 'consumer choices' include supporting a club like ours, do they feel at all hypocritical?
It's pretty simple. City rd is unique, as most of us are aware. The majority of business owners originate from different countries and different cultures. So i eat, talk to people, find stuff out that i didn't know before, and i have made sone friends along the way. I'm completely aware of the fact that their main objective is to make money for them and their families, and once i have left, they move onto the next punter. That's fine with me, but if me and others feeling like we have learnt something, eaten something that i wouldn't ordinarily eat, sit amongst people from a background that i would rarely do, and noticed stuff that i wouldn't in most other parts of the city, then i'm more than happy to be a 'By Product' of all of that.![]()
I’ve lived in Cardiff all my life. All 60 yrs.
I wouldn’t say my life has been enriched at all by living side by side with different nationalities, customs and cultures.
The only times i’ve felt enriched and excited by other customs and cultures, is when i’ve decided to travel myself to far off shores and destinations.
I’ve visited many places in Europe and the far east. I’ve made many good memories, mets lots of interesting folk, and learnt a lot about different cultures , currencies, customs, music etc.
Day to day life in Cardiff has been quite monotonous. You aren’t going to learn much from visiting your local Italian or Indian restaurant, or driving a German or Malaysian car. You aren’t gonna walk into a pub in Cardiff and have good chin wag with a Chinese,, Somali, Thai or Japanese punter are you ?
Food and drink perhaps, depending on what you choose. The other things might not have any bearing. If "food, drink, music, entertainment, sport, fashion, art, stuff like that" were a requirement for permanent residence, there'd be a fraction of the immigration we have.
But, again, that's not the point. All most people are saying is that immigration should be better managed which is met with cries of racism and selective examples of why everything's dandy.
Can't really help with the last paragraph; maybe you should ask them.
More sent down for Southampton rioting today
2 years and upwards seems to be the average sentence
Some of the " previous " of these brave patriots ....
Hit and run
Assault on a taxi driver
Involvement in a stabbing
Offensive weapon
Firearm
Assault on ex partner
Assault on an elderly woman
Some broad statements there. Are most people really saying immigration should be better managed? And if people do say that, are they always met with cries of racism as you seem to suggest? And who are these people who claim everything's dandy? I don't think I've ever met such a person.
Lots of people in the UK are undoubtedly saying immigration should be better managed, I'm of that opinion myself, but do most of the population think that way? I reckon you're over-estimating the British public there. Immigration is a major topic for many and an obsession for some, but I'm pretty sure similar numbers either don't have any firm opinions on the subject or couldn't care less. I think the recent election results once again demonstrated that's the case.
As for cries of racism, many people are open to reasonable debate on the subject of immigration, but many are also able to see certain arguments, individuals and political movements for exactly what they are. Meanwhile, I think the percentage of people who believe everything's dandy is somewhere between tiny and non-existent
Hong Kong chinese food is what most of us eat here in the uk due to the fact most chinese immigrants here actually come from there ....and the cuisine is in itself very " british "
Cardiff has a few authentic chinese restaurants which used to be located in the small chinatown in riverside
Cities with bigger chinatowns like Manchester have more choice of course but even there some of the food is not great , its the same with all cuisines
