If you followed the "opinion" I originally made it was in favour of people expressing their democratic right to vote rather than take the constant mantra expressed in some quarters of "you're too thick to understand that whoever you vote for makes no difference because your destiny is in the hands of an uber government elite".

Still if you want to translate that into some anti-Labour hobby horse then it's a free message board I guess

Apologies, I was talking more generally about CCMB.

I sit in the middle on this. There is no overarching global government pulling the strings. If there was, they arent very good at it.

But equally the idea that the country's problems are exclusively our own, caused by a party and solved by electing another party is just as much a mistruth.

I don't think many people demur from your last paragraph. That doesn't mean that electing one party or another won't impact the well being of an individual's circumstance or that of the nation for better or worse. You don't have to believe in magic bullets to want change.

Oh yeah, I think it's a small (but vocal) minority that generally believe it, but some do, and it's the prism they view politics through, whereas the reality is that governments face problems and the problems would usually be responded to in the same way..or if not only produce an alternative set of problems.

So it does matter, and I agree in the principle of change, if for no reason to keep everyone on their toes, but I don't think there will be any real change of note and I don't think we would be in a different position now had a Starmer Labour govt won in 2019

This is just a full on strawman. I don't remember anybody saying anything like this. The majority view seems to be something along the lines of 'tories have proven they definitely cant fix the problems, someone elses go now'.

I quite like Lisa Nandy, but Burnham would make the better PM.

And therein lies (ha!) the problem. His electoral pledges for the Labour leadership....trashed. Those were pretty big lies.

There's another thing that bugs me about this election. In 2019 we were told to 'keep Corbyn out by not only the press but ironically by many in the PLP.

Now it's, keep the Conservatives out at all costs. Where were those people in 2019 who gave Johnson an 80+ majority? Many of the policies that labour offered in 2017 and 2019 the country has been crying out for.

Now, I'm constantly told to vote for a lying bast8rd who's better than the last lying bast8rd because he's from an 'umble background. The truth is, I don't give a sh*t what background anyone is from so long as they have integrity.

Like I said in my thread...f*ck 'em all.....except the Greens now....after that thread and reading the arguments for not voting for them...it convinced me I should.

Another thing I remember from around 2019 was that there was a lot of talk of spending big to get the economy moving again, there were plenty back then saying that austerity was over, yet now it seems both of the main parties are offering more austerity because they cannot, of course, be seen to be putting taxes up.

Correct. And yet...taxes are going to have to go up. They know this. Social care collapse? Let's just ignore that. Not enough migrant workers in key jobs?....ignore that too...that doesn't fit the narrative....let's give the disabled a good kicking though...the media love that.
