Ah Billy Bragg, my favourite champagne socialist!Originally posted by Rjk View Posthttps://x.com/billybragg/status/1808...9AIcAC9Zw&s=19
if they end up as the third party then the lib dems would likely be the official opposition.
that could change the political discourse in this country massively

Do you criticize Tories for living modestly? As in "a beer and crisps Tory"?Originally posted by JamesWales View PostAh Billy Bragg, my favourite champagne socialist!

Of course not. But being lectured by a man who chooses not to live in a place governed by the party he wants us to support and chooses to live in a very undiverse, expensive place thats had a Tory MP for 30 years does rather give the impression of "do as I say not as I do".Originally posted by az city View PostDo you criticize Tories for living modestly? He is insufferable. Though I do have a couple of his albums and he did introduce me to Woody Guthrie which i am grateful for.

Where does he live Jim? What's his house like? For someone who is pretty insignificant in UK politics you seem to know a lot about him.Originally posted by JamesWales View PostOf course not. Re: vote tactically to remove as many Tories as possible
Why are people so keen to encourage others how to vote?
Isn't it a personal thing? If someone chooses to share it with you then cool, but surely people should just mind their own? Why do left wing people seem to all "rally around the enemy" ? I voted Labour last time, I'm not particularly over the moon with the Tories but this kind of thing also just puts me off Labour.

He's not that insignificant a cultural voice on UK politics..I just checked and he's been on Question Time 8 times!Originally posted by Tuerto View PostWhere does he live Jim? What's his house like? For someone who is pretty insignificant in UK politics you seem to know a lot about him.
I believe he lives in a very salubrious little village just outside Bridport a little in from the beautiful coast. West Dorset. Tory since the dawn of time, although interestingly may go to Lib Dem this time.
I like his music but I just think he's a bit of a hypocrite, and like a lot of left-wingers they dismiss people with different views who are very often far more at the coalface of policies in the UK.

This reads like you are implying that tories/right wing people don't do this? Do you remember 2017 and 2019 or even the recent scare mongering of all the hellish things Keir Starmer is going to do?Originally posted by Dembe View PostWhy are people so keen to encourage others how to vote?

Im talking more about the general public with one another, people in pubs, work canteens, football message boards etc.
I understand why the politicians do it, that is pretty obvious. I just find it weird the way the public get riled up and try and persuade others or sometimes shame them into voting differently. I wasn't asking you to agree, I was just posting a random opinion.

And gave it as a reason to not vote Labour.
When even on this board it's obvious it applies to both sides.

I think left wing people are far more abusive and judgemental about how others vote I'm afraid. I'm not sure if it was always that way, but certainly has been since social media became a thing.Originally posted by Hilts View PostYou quoted left wing people though.

Oh no, Billy Bragg lives in a nice house and village. Only people from the slums should extoll the virtue of voting Labour.Originally posted by JamesWales View PostOf course not. You're crackers.
You appear to be of modest means - how dare you support the Tories.

He's allowed to do it, but it does make him a bit of a condescending prick.
I know a lot of left wing people who endlessly go on about diversity and the like and then bang..have a couple of kids and move to the sticks! They want it for others, less so themselves.
