  • 20mph fatality reductions

Right I have gone through the latest 20mph data for Wales and have made this video. However, I know many of you prefer a thread so I've done that as well. Long story short, 20mph seems to be working VERY well and is already paying for itself. [Thread] https://t.co/obTI00plpA

some numbers starting to come through on the impact of the speed reduction from 30-20 mph.
interesting about the costs as well.

6 fewer deaths in the first 3 months of 2024.
that is well ahead of the estimates of around 10 fewer deaths per year.

if that trend continues then surely it's worth it?

20 families every year not having their lives destroyed?

Marvelous news, all the policymakers should be commended. 👏

Just imagine what could happen if we got the speed limit down to 10mph, and also banned bicycles and horses, and other things that kill people.

don't be silly, that would have a devastating effect on the economy and people's lives.

with the current rules we have saved lives at minimal impact

Just ignore him. He's been desperately to find a subject and point he can make in a sensible and coherent way for a long time but failing abysmally. I think it might be something that happens to people that spend too much time on X. Or it could just be the heat.

Or behavioural science, or objectives and agendas, or it could even be a wind up. Who knows? But it certainly ain't you, as you are too biased in your outlook.

The bit in bold is the most sense you've made in ages. Good effort.

Conversely how many lives would been saved if they invested that policy decision within the NHS ?

And we all know how this rule has impacted the economy

Responding to the news that Labour’s Transport Secretary, Ken Skates says that scrapping the 20mph altogether would be a "travesty”, Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Transport Minister, said:

OK….but how did they come to that figure? Surely that’s an important part of the jigsaw? That figure has to have credibility. Or is it a skewed political point?

The road rage has probably killed more with heart attacks!

Encouraging figures, that have surprised me to be honest. While I still think there are roads that should go back to 30, this would appear to show that many/most remaining at 20 mph would be a good idea.
