Foreign aid won't stop migration at source. Foreign aid is important but it's a sticking plaster and foreign aid increasing doesn't lead to asylum claims (or immigration generally falling.

This is becoming a really serious issue and you can't just wave it away like so many have done for so long.

Its an attempt to reduce migration at source

Our involvement in Afghanistan and the middle east , over many many years is one of the reasons why people come here

You cannot stop that , you can only manage it

Its the way of the world and shouting stop the boats , send em back and all that populist stuff , is not going to reduce immigration

We cant stop the boats , international maritime law over rules farage and his supporters

Using basic detention centres on vacant industrial land is a good idea to keep those waiting decisions away from the public .....and clearly the public away from them

Well I have asked for ideas rather than just shouting about it ....how can we close the airports , close the ports ?

Just say.....tomorrow Heathrow is shut , Dover is shut ?

Or ......keep them partly open and funnel migrants into a holding pen ?

How's that going to work , practically ? What's the cost ? If the cost of not doing anything is social unrest then why when its said action on all this would cost billions and lead to higher taxes....people whistle and want to talk about the football ?

Secure borders .....needs lots of investment ....we dont want to fund

Control immigration numbers and come up with promises that are never met ....tories spent 14 years doing that

Efficient asylum process ....current government improving this but again costs money ......taxes etc

Development aid ....goes right to the source of so much migration ....you might think its not up to scratch but thats not the view of those with expertise in this area

With respect, the mistake here is to label this "far- right" (a grossly overused description at the moment).

People protest about things all the time. Its perfectly reasonable to not want to see a local hotel turned into asylum accommodation without having any say on the matter and those concerns will be understandably sent into overdrive once a 14 year old girl is sexually assaulted.

I think people would be wise to realise what these protests are in order to draw the full conclusion from it. If you just think it's far-right protesters then it's not understanding the depth of feeling and motivation of those involved.

So why were you , concerned about the " children " type and all your mates not out protesting about jenrick setting up all these hotels in 2023 ?

I've recognized the negatives of unsustainable immigration for years Sludge. Sensible people saw it coming. I don't argue a 2019-2024 Tory position for it any more than I argue a smug home owning liberal who isn't impacted by it position.
